Barack Obama addresses the racist video of him and his wife, Michelle Obama.

A recent offensive video posted by the United States President Donald Trump’s social media account showcased former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle as apes. The video received widespread backlash, though the White House defended it by saying that the whole concept was to depict Trump as the King of the jungle and everyone else as animals. They also stated that making the Obamas apes was not intentional.
However, people are not buying the story, and Barack Obama himself decided to speak up on it. Though he did not mention the video or Trump directly, he spoke to liberal podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen and said,
"There's this sort of clown show that's happening in social media and on television and what is true is that there doesn’t seem to be any shame about this among people who used to feel like you had to have some sort of decorum and a sense of propriety and respect for the office, right? That’s been lost."
Along with this and everything else that has been going on in the US, he stated,
"It's important to recognise that the majority of the American people find this behaviour deeply troubling. It is true that it gets attention. It's true that it's a distraction."
Senator Tim Scott, who is the only black Republican senator in Congress, also expressed his displeasure by describing it as "the most racist thing I've seen out of this White House."
While Donald Trump himself doesn't think he has done any wrong. When asked about the racist clip in the 1-minute-long video set to the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight, he said he "didn't see" the part of the video. However, when questioned if he would apologize to Barack Obama and his wife, he told the reporters, "I didn't make a mistake."
