Kendrick Lamar is one of the most influential artists of his generation. His catalogue and prowess are almost unmatched, and a very public feud with Drake in 2024 catapulted him into an unprecedented level of superstardom.
In the latest news about the “Money Trees” rapper, Kendrick Lamar was on hand at the 68th Grammy Awards, which took place in Los Angeles on February 1. During the show, host Trevor Noah made a joke referencing Lamar’s beef with Drake
"I thought about writing a few jokes, roasting you. But then I remembered what you can do to light-skinned dudes from other countries. Yeah, my delegation and I are still recovering from the pain. So I'm just saying congratulations."
Interestingly, once the clip surfaced online, social media users were quick to react to Noah’s reference to the artist’s all-time beef. One X user stated,
“Even at the GRAMMYs, the subtext is clear: Kendrick doesn’t need to say Drake’s name anymore. The reputation does the work for him.”
“Trevor chose survival over comedy. Kendrick got diplomatic immunity at this point”
“Kendrick’s clapback game is next level—this is why the GRAMMYs never disappoint”
Some of the online discourse interestingly pushed back on Kendrick’s perceived superiority in the battle between the Los Angeles native and Drake. One X user stated,
“Everyone has to mention Drake's name directly or indirectly to remain relavant we now know how it goes down FR FR! The Grammy doesnt reflect how an individual is talented”
“Drake may have been roasted, but let’s be real... he’s still running the charts and hearts worldwide.”
Kendrick Lamar makes Grammy history
Interestingly, Kendrick Lamar also earned a major distinction at this year’s Grammy Awards. After winning a total of 5 Grammys on the night (with 3 coming in the unaired part of the ceremony), the Compton rapper surpassed Jay-Z as the most-ever awarded rapper in the ceremony’s history. Lamar now has an almost unfathomable 27 Grammy wins to his name.
When accepting the award for Best Rap Album, Kendrick shared the following,
"I’m not good at talking about myself, I express it through the music. But it's an honor to be here with [these artists], these are my brothers. Every time I tell you this, hip-hop is always gonna be right here, we're gonna be in these suits and looking good. God is the glory."
The night was another resounding win for Kendrick Lamar, whose next steps for 2026 are uncertain for now.
