Miley Cyrus is an American pop culture icon. She got her breakthrough role as a child actor on Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, where she portrayed a teenage girl living a double life as a famous pop singer.

In the latest news about the “Flowers” singer, Miley Cyrus recently featured in a cover story for Variety, where she opened up about her opinion regarding fellow artist Chappell Roan’s public comments about the trappings of fame. Miley shared in the piece published on March 18 that she was, in fact, one of the first people to reach out to Roan when the “Feminomenon” singer’s perspective on fan harassment went viral.

“I never bow down to bullies. Anytime I feel like somebody is being bullied, I feel very protective of them. When I see people struggling, I’m always the first one to ask, ‘Can I get in contact with them?’ I’d like to show artists how they can have a balanced life.”

Cyrus has a history of going to bat for Roan, as she shared the following in a November 2024 piece by Harper’s Bazaar,

“I wish people would not give her a hard time. It’s probably really hard coming into this business with phones and Instagram.”

Miley Cyrus seems to be growing into a mentor for young artists, and her vast experience seems to make her uniquely suited for the role.

Miley Cyrus on Hannah Montana Reboot

Miley Cyrus touched on several personal topics during her recent Variety interview, which was largely based on the reboot of Hannah Montana. Interestingly enough, Cyrus shared that some sage advice from her godmother, Dolly Parton, really got the ball rolling.

“I learned this terrible habit — but I actually think it was good advice — from Dolly. She told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no. So I just started promoting a ‘Hannah Montana’ 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist.”

Miley added,

“I think even Disney sometimes forgets the connection between me and Hannah. It’s not just a TV show. I see daily how important Hannah is to people. When I travel, people bring me ‘Hannah’ merch. They ask, ‘Are you ever going to do another season?’”

Miley Cyrus also touched on the fact that self-professed Hannah Montana diehard and Call Her Daddy podcast host Alex Cooper has been crucial to the process, with Cooper even slated to interview in the special.
