U.S. Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has been arrested in Orange County on Thursday on charges of dangerous excessive speeding, as per the Orange County Sheriff's Department. According to the department, Richardson was pulled over by a traffic enforcement officer while she was traveling at 104 mph and was"dangerously tailgating and traveling across lanes of travel to pass other motorists."As per bodycam footage going viral on social media, a traffic enforcement officer can be seen stopping Sha’Carri Richardson and saying,"I'd wipe that smile off your face."And added,"You're driving at a 104mph at a 65 mph zone with subpar equipment, flashing people to get out of your way. Following too close, using every lane to pass everybody, cutting me off, passing a car on the inside shoulder with their headlights on, you're going to jail for dangerous excessive speeding.""I am a law-abiding citizen": Sha’Carri Richardson begs officer to not arrest herSha’Carri Richardson, while responding to an officer who noted that she would be going to jail for excessive speeding, began apologizing and begged him not to arrest her,"I really want to work with you, sir. I am a law-abiding citizen. Sir, please don't allow me to go to jail. Please. Please, sir."However, the officer told Richardson that “nothing you say is going to change that.”Sha’Carri Richardson argued that it wasn’t her "intention" to speed, to which the officer replied that “that’s even more scary, you’re doing something unintentionally in a task that requires all your attention.” Despite Richardson’s begging, the officer said that she could have a little bit of time to “make some phone calls.”Richardson joined her hands and said that she’s “begging” the officer and that she “would do everything.” The officer ignored Richardson’s requests and informed her that she had two options, and that she could either ride with the officer in the police car or go in a “cage car.”Richardson’s boyfriend, fellow Olympian Christian Coleman, was also arrested alongside the gold medalist on January 29, as per the arrest affidavit obtained by People. Coleman was arrested for allegedly resisting when Richardson was stopped by a traffic enforcement officer. Police later allegedly found drug paraphernalia inside his car, as per the affidavit. When the reporting officer instructed Coleman to wait at his car, Coleman instead dropped “an object in the grass” and “started defending” Richardson to keep the officer from arresting her.
