Just like many of his peers and fellow media personnel, Piers Morgan also comes out to defend Don Lemon.Journalist Piers Morgan comes out to give his own two cents on Don Lemon's arrest. Morgan, who also worked with CNN like Lemon, went on X to say,"Don Lemon may be annoying, hyper-partisan against Trump, and surprisingly thin-skinned as he showed when he came on @PiersUncensored recently.. but he shouldn’t have been arrested for doing his job as a journalist, not least because he is already milking it like a dairy farmer."Though the statement might be a bit passive-aggressive, it seems that Piers Morgan was defending Don after his arrest on Thursday. However, the internet is busy debating whether they agree with Piers Morgan or not.One user commented,"So if protesters broke into your house, church, or place of employment, refused to leave, and blocked your exit… you're okay with that???"Another said,"Don Lemon will be OK. 80% chance the judge will dismiss the charges on First Amendment grounds, and 90% chance the jury dismisses it if it even goes to trial. Then he’ll get to play the martyr and draw 1000s of new subscribers to his YouTube channel."Another person agreed with Piers Morgan person stated,"Arresting journalists for reporting is a red line. You can dislike Don Lemon’s politics or personality and still recognize that detaining a reporter for doing his job is unacceptable in a free society. Press freedom isn’t conditional on likability."Don Lemon's arrestWhile covering the Grammys on Thursday, Don Lemon was taken into custody for filming the anti-immigration enforcement protesters at a protest at a Church in St Paul, Minnesota, on January 19. He was arrested by the FBI for violating federal law.According to his lawyer, Abbe Lowell, explained, "Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than what he has always done. The first amendment exists to protect journalists whose role it is to shine light on the truth and hold those in power accountable."Lemon has since been released by a U.S. district judge with no monetary bond required. Outside the courthouse, he made a statement saying,“I will not stop now. I will not stop ever. In fact, there is no more important time but right now, this very moment, for a free and independent media that shines a light on truth and holds those in power accountable.”He also argued that the federal authorities were targeting him for doing his job and infringing on his first ammendment rights.
