Billie Eilish is one of the most influential artists of her era. Her countless hits and a massive audience have solidified her as one of the voices of her generation, and she has used her platform to speak out against injustice, while encouraging others to do so as well.

In the latest news about the “Birds of a Feather” singer, Billie Eilish was one of the artists who used the Grammys stage to speak up against ICE during her acceptance speech.

“Thank you so much. I can’t believe this. Everyone else in this category is so amazing. I love you so much. I feel so honored every time I get to be in this room. As grateful as I feel, I honestly don’t feel like I need to say anything but that no one is illegal on stolen land.”

The singer continued,

“And, yeah, it’s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now, and I feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting, and our voices really do matter, and the people matter, and f**k ICE. That’s all I’m going to say. Sorry. Thank you so much.”

Billie Eilish was not the only one to mention ICE, with Bad Bunny and others also following her lead. She won the Grammy for “Wildflower,” which was deemed by the awards committee as song of the year.

Billie Eilish - Environmental Justice Award, more

Interestingly, Billie Eilish is not one to shy away from making her feelings heard when it comes to what’s happening in America on a cultural and political level.

While accepting the Martin Luther King Jr. Beloved Community Award for Environmental Justice last month, she was vocal about her views on the current administration under President Donald Trump.

“It’s very strange to be celebrated for working toward environmental justice at a time where it feels less achievable than ever given the state of our country and the world right now.”

She continued,

“We’re seeing our neighbors being kidnapped, peaceful protesters being assaulted and murdered, our civil rights being stripped, resources to fight the climate crisis being cut for fossil fuels and animal agriculture destroying our planet, and people’s access to food and healthcare becoming a privilege for the wealthy instead of a new basic human right for all Americans.”

It's important for someone with a platform like Billie Eilish to be vocal in the face of perceived injustice. It remains to be seen if her words will continue to encourage others to speak up as well.
