Ryan Gosling is a true A-lister, whose distinct charisma truly sets his characters apart. While he is likely best known for his performances in The Notebook, Barbie, and La La Land, Gosling is also someone who is generally in the news. This is due to the fact that his wife, Eva Mendes, is also an actress.

In the most recent update about The Fall Guy star Ryan Gosling, he appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, a popular weekly podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz. He was there to promote his latest film, Project Hail Mary. During his conversation on the episode, Gosling revealed that “some discussions” took place with Marvel about the actor joining the MCU as Ghost Rider.

“We’ll keep hope alive. Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation.”

Interestingly, he has been campaigning for the role since 2022, when he had to shut down rumors that Marvel was courting him for a different role altogether. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also previously praised the star, claiming he was eager for Gosling to join the MCU in some capacity as well.

“Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider… Gosling’s unbelievable. Ryan is amazing…I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU."

Project Hail Mary released in theatres in the United States on March 20, though some international markets have scheduled later releases for Ryan Gosling’s latest project.

Ryan Gosling on missed Tom Cruise moment

Ryan Gosling touched on several interesting topics during his recent Happy Sad Confused podcast appearance with Josh Horowitz. Perhaps the most interesting tidbit the actor shared was a missed encounter with Tom Cruise on the set of Gosling’s upcoming Star Wars film titled Star Wars: Starfighter.

When Horowitz asked, “What’s the day like when Tom Cruise directs you on a Star Wars film?”, Gosling’s response was somewhat disappointing.

“I wasn't there. It's the one day I'm not there. I worked on that movie the whole time. I get one day off. And I'm like and Sean sends me a picture of him and Tom Cruise and and Flynn. They're like in the mud. I was like, "What?" And they were like, ‘Yeah, Tom Cruz flew his helicopter onto set’”

Gosling continued to describe the day in detail:

“They were just shooting and they heard a helicopter they had to cut and it was Tom Cruz. He lands in the middle of set. He takes a camera and he just starts shooting the action scene. There's like a shot of him in the mud with Flynn shooting Flynn. And this is Flynn's first, I mean it's not his first film, but it's like one of his first films. It was an incredible moment. And I don't know why he waited for the one day I wasn't there. I'm going to hope that was an accident.

As of this report, the Sean Levy-directed Star Wars: Starfighter will debut in theatres on May 28, 2027. This will make it two consecutive projects for the pair, as Levy also directed Ryan Gosling in Project Hail Mary.
