In Serravalle, Antonelli lost control of his car, a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ “Motorsport Collector’s Edition,” while on an inclining section of the highway, according to the police statement released. Before proceeding into a railing and hitting it twice, the vehicle initially collided with a traffic light post on the right side of the road.

The car was then thrown back across the road by the impact and struck a retaining wall. The statement reads:

"The second traffic accident occurred on the night between February 7th and 8th in Serravalle, along the highway, in the ascending lane near the intersection with Via Ranco."

The statement continued:

"The light traffic conditions at that time allowed the damage and consequences to be contained. The driver, a high-performance vehicle, lost control, first striking a traffic light pole on the right shoulder of the roadway, then continuing into the guardrail, which he struck twice."

According to the officials, the accident extended for roughly 144 meters. The low traffic conditions actually helped the driver, as it shielded other drivers and him from additional harm or danger. The emergency services verified that no one was harmed and that no other cars were involved:

"As a result, the vehicle was thrown back into the right lane, striking a retaining wall. Initial investigations indicate that the accident extended approximately 144 meters. The occupants were uninjured."

Mercedes’ official response and health update on Kimi Antonelli

The Formula 1 team was quick to release a statement soon after the accident, as they reassured the media, teams, and supporters by confirming the information. The team had released a statement where they confirmed that Kimi Antonelli himself had called the police, informing them about the accident. Mercedes stressed that the young F1 driver was "completely unharmed" and did not need medical attention, even though the car was damaged:

“Last Saturday evening, near his home in San Marino, Kimi was involved in a road accident. The police attended the scene after being called by Kimi. His was the only car involved and, although the vehicle sustained damage, Kimi was completely unharmed.”

The car that Kimi Antonelli was driving, the Mercedes AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ “Motorsport Collectors Edition,” is a rare model. Being one of the only 200 in the world, this features a special hand-painted livery of Petronas, also has some advanced technical specifications, which include an aerodynamic design to cut lift and an upgraded cooling system. Powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering 612 horsepower.

The car's safety features performed as intended, reducing any chance of harm to the driver and ensuring that the driver will be participating in the Bahrain test. Kimi Antonelli will be driving the Mercedes W17 on Wednesday afternoon, then on Thursday morning and finally on Friday afternoon.
