What happened between Dan Bongino and Dave Smith? Comedian's online feud with former FBI deputy director explained

Outgoing FBI deputy director Dan Bongino and comedian Dave Smith seem to be at loggerheads. In December 2025, Bongino announced that he had resigned from the FBI, amidst the clash over Epstein files. On December 2, Smith released an episode on his Part of the Problem podcast, which was titled, “The Disgraced Dan Bongino.” In this episode, Dave Smith mocked Bongino for his Fox interview, where he talked about his work in the FBI.

It seems like Dan Bongino recently appeared for a conversation somewhere. Contrary to beliefs that it would not be streamed much, the show became a hit. On January 8, he shared an X post, writing:

“The lib/black-piller symbiote is a funny little organism. It’s even led by a “comedian.” These m*rons can’t even follow their own battle plan. Quick example - I do a guest hit last night on a podcast and the L.B.P. symbiote starts rage tweeting “no one is going to watch.” When it was the number one live stream in its slot the L.B.P. symbiote melted down again claiming “that was us there to attack you.””

He wrote that he had been dealing with such instances for 15 years. Meanwhile, Dave Smith reshared the post on X, writing:

“Yeah yeah, nice story. Why did you lie through your teeth about Epstein?”

Responding to Dave Smith’s comment, Dan Bongino commented:

“Hilarious that you not only missed the news cycle for the past year, but that you also knew you were the m*ron referenced in the post. Watching you advertise your dipsh*ttery on a series of debates over the past year was my guilty pleasure while I was working. Now go back to your momma’s spare room and write me some jokes.”

Dave Smith asked Dan Bongino to “debate the Trump FBI/Justice department’s track record”

Responding to Dan Bongino, Dave Smith wrote that Bongino had been clearly referring to him but did not have the courage to say his name. He also claimed it was strange that Bongino had watched all of his debates while being busy with his work, which Smith accused would define his public reputation in a negative way. In a separate X post, Smith tagged Bongino and wrote:

“Hey @dbongino since you’re talking all this shit about me and you’re trying to take on the “blackpillers” why don’t you man up and come take me on. Let’s debate the Trump FBI/Justice department’s track record. You said I lose all my debates right? Don’t be scared homie.”

During the podcast episode in December 2025, Dave Smith played Dan Bongino’s interview video, where the latter discussed the sacrifices his family made. He also defended Kash Patel and said that it was difficult for him to stay separated from his wife because he loved her. Dave Smith mocked Bongino, saying:

“Dan Bongino is getting to work at 7:30, Rob, not 7:45. 7:30. And get this, he doesn't get to bring his wife with him. She does not get to go with him to his job, which he's got to be at. Rob, let me remind you one more time. 7:30 in the morning. Yeah. This guy wakes up in the morning, Rob, and he goes to a room where he's got to work all day.”

Dave Smith said this was like describing every adult’s job. He mocked Dan Bongino for using the word “divorced” and then immediately correcting it to “separated.” Smith said that what Bongino tried to say in the interview is that his wife didn’t get to come with him to his office.
