Interestingly, future bandmates Dash Crofts and Jim Seals first met as teenagers in Texas while they were still in high school. He and Seals would eventually move to Southern California, and both joined The Champs alongside Chuck Rio from 1958 to 1965. During that time, they recorded their first-ever smash hit, “Tequila”, and Dash Crofts was also drafted into the army, where he spent two years.

The two then settled in as a recording duo called Seals and Crofts in 1969 and enjoyed tremendous commercial success together through the 1970s and beyond. Summer Breeze and Diamond Girl still undoubtedly stand as the duo’s greatest hits, and the pair even had two albums reach platinum status.

Crofts would also go on to release a solo album in 1998 called Today.
