Beloved New Jersey entertainer Floyd Vivino, best known as Uncle Floyd, has died at the age of 74 after dealing with health issues for the previous two and a half years. The comedian, musician, cult TV star, and a pivotal figure in regional television and comedy, left a lasting legacy that is ingrained in New Jersey culture.Uncle Floyd's brother, Jerry Vivino, had announced his passing through social media on 23 January 2026, where he wrote:"Rest in peace big brother. You will be missed, but always remembered by friends, family and your loving fans."Later, a memorial photograph titled "Uncle Floyd Vivino, 1951–2026" was added to a Facebook page honoring Vivino. His family claims that he passed away following a protracted illness.More about the man they called Uncle FloydBorn in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1951, Floyd Vivino comes from a musical family. His brothers, Jimmy and Jerry Vivino, are successful professional musicians, while Floyd has made a name for himself in the entertainment business. He attended Glen Rock High School, where his comedic talent would emerge and turn him into the entertainer that he is today.Vivino’s fame was widespread throughout the state of New Jersey via The Uncle Floyd Show, which ran from 1974 until 1998 on local cable, UHF television, and finally public television. Often described as a children's program for adults, the show was a chaotic combination of music and humor.At its peak, the Uncle Floyd Fan Club was said to have over 13,000 members from 23 states, a remarkable achievement for a local television program.The show also attracted big musicians and celebrities over the years, such as The Ramones, Jon Bon Jovi, and Cyndi Lauper. Even David Bowie was a fan, as Vivino once remembered that David Bowie told him that he heard about Uncle Floyd from John Lennon.The rockstar even paid tribute to the show with a nostalgic track titled ‘Slip Away’ from his 2002 album Heathen.After the show ended, Vivino continued with his live comedy, where he would perform at least 300 shows around the year in New York and New Jersey. The man was well-known for his colorful signature plaid coat, porkpie hat, and New Jersey humor, which could only be understood by native New Jerseyans.Floyd was also known for his cameo in the 1987 Robin Williams film Good Morning, Vietnam.Health struggles and 2023 strokeVivino had a severe stroke in 2023, which had a major impact on his performance. He talked openly about his road to recovery in a 2024 interview, expressing how much he missed performing live and interacting with crowds.At the time, as he was recovering, Viviano stated:"This isn’t my final bow. But I have a long road ahead. This is real."Uncle Floyd continued to do interviews, podcasts, and shows towards the end of his career. His legacy as an entertainer will live on.
