With an impressive rating of 8.6/10 on IMDb, this crime drama series looks into the minds of serial killers in the 1970s, as two FBI agents, Holden Ford and Bill Tench, interview them. It also gives us an insight into the origins of criminal profiling techniques.

Mindhunter is derived on John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker's 1995 book 'Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit'.

This series began in 2017, and concluded with its second season in 2019. Created by Joe Penhall, it stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Hannah Gross, Anna Torv, and many others.


2) GLOW

This comedy drama on Netflix is a beautiful series that explores the emancipatory journey of a squad of women in the world of wrestling. In order to organize a competent wrestling show, they navigate their own hardships, challenges, and determination as well as experience friendship and solidarity.

This three-season series has even won accolades at the Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Awards. It began in the year 2017, and ended by 2019. A brainchild of Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, GLOW stars Alison Brie, Sydelle Noel, Britney Young, Betty Gilpin, Marc Maron, etc.


3) The Get Down

Baz Luhrmann and Stephen Adly Guirgis's The Get Down looks into the origins of hip-hop music as well as how some teens living in the Bronx during the 1970s explore music as a form of artistic expression and freedom.

The series had only one season, which was split into two parts. It ran from 2016 to 2017. Actors including Justice Smith, Herizen F. Guardiola, Shameik Moore, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Skylan Brooks, and many more star in this musical drama series.


4) Lady Dynamite

This comedy series is influenced by Maria Bamford's life, in which she also stars. This two-season series explores the story of a woman whose life and times are told in a fragmented, surrealist manner with loads of humorous elements.

Along with Bamford, the series also stars Mary Kay Place, Fred Melamed, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and several others. Created by Pam Brady and Mitch Hurwitz, this show has garnered a spectacular rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series debuted in 2016, and ended in 2017.


5) American Vandal

And lastly, we have Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda's mockumentary American Vandal. This Peabody award-winning series talks about how two high school students Peter Maldonado and Sam Ecklund step onto the journey of finding the truth behind a case of car vandalism in their school. They look into this case as if they are investigating a real criminal case.

With sharp humour, this Netflix show raises important issues such as how our perceptions are controlled by narratives built in social media, gossips and the collective verdict believed by the public. This series stars Tyler Alvarez, Griffin Gluck and Jimmy Tatro, to name a few.
