Here's what happened in the latest episode.

Athena is rescued in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 3

Things were not looking good for Athena, Matthew and Harvey in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 3, after Maddie diverted the lava onto the subway. Maddie diverted the lava underground and ensured that the molten substance would not harm the residents.

Time was running out for Athena but Harvey proved useful. While his memory was failing, Harvey managed to connect Athena to the call centre after remembering details from his time at the phone company. Athena was devastated when she learned the lava was directed towards them, but Maddie asked Chimney and the 118 for rescue. On the other hand, May learned Athena's whereabouts after the jewelry store owner ended up as a patient in her hospital.

Athena did not trust Matthew, but he surprisingly helped her and Harvey climb up a ladder, and even took a nasty fall in the process, which led to internal bleeding. Fearing the worst as he was losing blood from internal bleeding, Matthew asked Athena to apologize to Martha on his behalf, as the 118 came to the rescue in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 3.

Thankfully, the 118 saved the day and rescued Athena, Matthew and Harvey just before another burst of lava entered the tunnel. Matthew survived after he received timely treatment for his injuries.

Maddie got bad news in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 3

After Athena's rescue in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 3, things were getting back to normal in the city. The coastal breeze had hardened the lava. While the subway system was down, the damage was contained due to Maddie's quick thinking.

But things took a turn when Sue returned with bad news for Maddie. The supervisors were not happy with Maddie for endangering a poor neighbourhood and diverting all resources to an affluent area. While Maddie maintained that her decision was based on location and not the status of the areas, Sue revealed that the supervisors were looking for a scapegoat. Sue's bosses had asked her to return to work and fire Maddie.

But Sue supported Maddie, asserting she would only return to the call centre if Maddie got her old job. As the episode concluded, Maddie was back to being a dispatcher at the call centre.

Eddie and Buck got into a heated argument in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 3

While the fumes of the hot lava died down in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 3, friction between Buck and Eddie over Theo's parenting was stronger than ever. After a harrowing shift, Eddie arrived at Buck's house, where he was playing a game called Lava Bomb with Theo. Eddie was angry at Buck for reducing a citywide emergency to a game and advised him to talk to Theo like a father.

While Buck maintained Theo needed a friend, Eddie disagreed and said:

"The kid needs a father, and some boundaries that actually make him feel safe."

Buck felt Eddie was overstepping and finally asked him to leave, concluding the episode on a tense note:

"You don't like the way I'm handling things, Eddie? You know where the door is."
