9-1-1 Season 10 sees the 118 handle multiple emergencies in Lava Land - Episode 2 recap ahead

9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 2, titled Fire in the Hole, aired on ABC on October 22. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the official synopsis for the episode reads as follows:

"As lava takes over Los Angeles, the 118 works to evacuate scared and trapped citizens; Athena runs into a familiar face as she searches for a way out of a collapsed tunnel; Maddie is forced to make an impossible decision."

The 9-1-1 Season 10 premiere set the stage for Lava Land, which continued to wreak havoc in the city as the 118 and Maddie struggled to help victims. After Ty died in the previous episode, Maddie was tasked with deciding which area of the city to save first. Elsewhere, May received a horde of patients at the hospital after the volcanic eruption. After a groom, who was covered in burns, started passing out in front of her, May had a panic attack and cried on the bathroom floor.

According to Hidden Remote, Athena ran into a familiar rookie cop in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 2 but remained trapped in the tunnel, while the 118 helped victims in need outside.

The 118 takes on the Lava Land in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 2

As teased in the 9-1-1 Season 10 premiere, Episode 2 began with a ton of lava-related emergencies for the 118. The volcanic eruption caused a traffic jam in the middle of the city. People left their vehicles when molten lava started pooling around them. While the 118 instructed everyone to cooperate, a man started jumping from one car to another until he fell into the river of lava and lost his life.

Hen and Harry were sent to an apartment where a woman was pinned to the floor by a ball of lava. While the situation looked bad, Hen asked Josh to keep the woman on the list of rescues while she tried to stabilize her. But things took a turn when Hen discovered that the woman's liver and lungs were badly damaged and she would likely not survive. As the woman accepted her fate, Hen tried to make her comfortable in her final moments, while Harry refused to lose hope. As he sat holding the woman's hand, she died.

Eddie found a service dog in the middle of the chaos in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 2. He used the dog's sense of smell to track his owner, Ryland, who was having a seizure in his car. Thankfully, Eddie saved him in time.

Buck had his own assignment in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 2, when he found a pregnant woman named Paige in her car. Buck led Paige from one car to another until they were surrounded by molten lava. When there was no way out, Chimney and the team came to the rescue and saved Buck and Paige, just in time, before another explosion.

Athena remains trapped in the tunnel in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 2

While Athena remained trapped in the tunnel in 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 2, she found company in a man named Harvey and rookie cop Matthew Sparks. Athena got hope when Harvey revealed he knew the way out of the tunnel. But soon, it was evident something was wrong with the man. His memory was failing him and the trio was only running in circles.

When Harvey expressed excitement about returning home to his wife, who died three months ago, Athena checked him for a concussion but was not sure what was wrong with him.

In the final moments of 9-1-1 Season 10 Episode 2, Athena and the group finally reached an exit. But just as they were about to exit, another volcanic explosion blocked their path with lava, suggesting Athena will have to spend more time underground until the 118 comes to her rescue in the upcoming episode.
