A quick recap of the mid-season premiere of 9-1-1 Season 9

Episode 8 picked up after Hen's health scare. The episode revealed that she had been taking a chemo treatment for her mysterious ailment in the shady spa from the mid-season finale. While she continues to hide it from the 118, Karen catches her off guard after noticing a string of suspicious charges on her credit card. Despite Karen and Athena's advice, Hen continues to attend calls with the 118 until she collapses on the job.

Chimney is naturally disappointed at Hen for concealing her health secret from him and putting herself and the team in danger. He angrily fires Hen from the job.

Elsewhere, Buck and Ravi became Eddie's wingmen at a fun night out in a club. As Eddie maintained his distance from women, Buck ended up earning two dates, one with a man and another with a woman, who turned out to be a married couple looking for a third. Though Buck was flattered by their interest in him, he declined their request.

The upcoming episode in 9-1-1 Season 9 will naturally explore the aftermath of Chimney's shocking decision, where he fired Hen after learning the secret about her health. While the fans and the 118 are still unaware of the details of Hen's mysterious ailment, the symptoms and treatment look serious. Considering she collapsed on the job and risked herself and the 118, this could potentially turn into a long storyline.

While Chimney fired Hen, Athena will fight for her friend. The teaser for 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 8 sees Athena questioning Chimney's decision to fire Hen when the 118 is supposed to be a family. Looks like fans will get to see Chimney navigating between his captain and best friend duties.

Elsewhere, a subplot in the upcoming episode will see AI taking over the 911 dispatchers' job. Though Maddie remains suspicious of robots replacing human jobs, she doesn’t hesitate to step up when a man’s life is endangered by his new 'dispatcher.'

Tune in to 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 8 on ABC on January 15.
