The Boys Season 5 is just a week away, with the fifth season set to premiere on Prime Video next Wednesday. The fourth season ended with Homelander becoming the de facto leader and initiating a hunt for everyone who opposed him, including the titular characters. Therefore, the upcoming fifth season is going to be the darkest entry in the dark superhero satire. The cast and crew of the series are doing press rounds promoting the final season. Moreover, things are so dark that even one of the show's more optimistic characters, Starlight/Annie January, is no longer optimistic in the final season. Actress Erin Moriarty teased a darker Annie in The Boys Season 5 in an interview with CBR:“It really, to me, reflected the extensive period of time she spent isolated in the situation she has been in. It's a foreshadow in terms of ... there's an isolation that can go hand-in-hand with a certain kind of nihilism that we see her start to exhibit in the first episode [of Season 5].”Jack Quaid also offered an ominous tease for The Boys Season 5: View this post on Instagram Instagram PostJack Quaid appeared on a recent episode of The Tonight Show. There, Jimmy Fallon asked the actor if we can expect a happy ending for our heroes in the last episode. To this, Quaid laughed out loud and said:"No, in no way. No, it's The Boys. It's not going to be a fairytale ending in any regard. This is the final season, and we really do mean that. There are characters, I won't say who, who meet their end, and it's crazy, it's really, really nuts. And it was emotional. I'm covered in blood a lot on the show, and it was so weird to be covered in blood and various goos, and then to just like also be emotional about that, where I'm like, 'I'm really gonna miss this,' and I'm just drenched head to toe. But, it's just been the honor of my life, I truly love the show and everyone involved."Quaid's tease is very similar to what Erin Moriarty said early this month in an interview with Collider. Teasing a varying tone for The Boys Season 5, Moriarty said:"There's going to be a lot of shock, there’s going to be a lot of laughter, there's humor. There's everything that you would imagine, but the emotional gravity of it kind of caught me by surprise. It's a show that makes you laugh and makes you gasp, but has it made people sob as much as it will in the final season? In my opinion, it's going to be really emotional."What do we know about the upcoming season of The Boys? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostSet after the Gen V Season 2 finale, this world is controlled by Homelander as he and his fellow Vought-controlled supes are rounding up the dissenters. As that happens, the heroes prepare for one final stand against Homelander. The official synopsis of The Boys Season 5 reads:"In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a “Freedom Camp.” Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen."The Boys Season 5 will premiere with two episodes on Prime Video next Wednesday.
