The latest House of the Dragon episode sets up the birth of a character who was cut in the second season of the HBO show. This character should've been in the darkest scene in the HBO prequel's history. In Fire & Blood, Helaena and Aegon had three kids, but the second season had only two kids, one son and one daughter, Jaehaerys and Jaehaera. But the third act of the latest episode reveals that Helaena is expecting her third baby with Aegon, which was conceived before the abdicated ruler's injury. This baby's birth could complicate matters for Rhaenyra's reign in the upcoming episodes or even next season of House of the Dragon.Helaena and Aegon's youngest child, Maelor Targaryen, finally enters House of the Dragon Season 3In George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood, Blood and Cheese break into Helaena's chambers and hold Jaehaerys and the young Maelor. Like in the series, the killers ask Helaena to choose the child she would like to sacrifice. Helaena chooses Maelor, believing that the child is too young to understand anything. Cheese, who is holding young Maelor hostage, mocks the child, telling him that his mother wants him dead. But Blood goes ahead and kills Jaehaerys anyway.Jaehaerys' twin sister, Jaehaera, is never in danger in the book. However, HBO's House of the Dragon changes this dark chapter by not having Maelor Targaryen at all. Instead, Jaehaera's life is at stake in the show as both she and Jaehaerys look similar because of their blonde hair. Helaena points Blood and Cheese towards Jaehaerys' bed, enabling them to kill the young prince.House of the Dragon changes the tragic nature of the young prince's life by having him this late. Young Maelor's brutal and tragic death in the book is what drove Helaena to take her own life. But we don't know how the HBO show will adapt these major deaths.Maelor Targaryen's birth is a bit late: View this post on Instagram Instagram PostMaelor's entrance is too late, because his storyline is deeply tied to Helaena's in the book. Helaena always lived with the guilt of choosing Maelor, and yet Blood and Cheese killed the firstborn son, Jaehaerys. Moreover, it was Maelor's vicious death at the hands of an angry mob that pushed his mother to take her own life. The HBO show is condensing the timeline of the Targaryen Civil War by speedrunning through major events. Last week's episode confirmed that only a few months have passed in the show's timeline between Viserys I's death in the season 1 finale and Rhaenyra’s ascension to the Iron Throne in the ongoing third season. Many believe that, much like Laena Velaryon from the sixth episode of the first season, Helaena might order her dragon to incinerate her, ultimately proving Maelor's inclusion in the HBO prequel to be ultimately pointless. If it indeed happens, it would further anger George R. R. Martin, who has been open about his abysmal relationship with showrunner Ryan Condal. What do you think about Maelor's late inclusion in the HBO show?
