A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is continuing its streak of being in the headlines after delivering multiple of the strongest episodes in the entire Game of Thrones franchise. With Episode 5, titled “In the Name of the Mother,” the franchise already boasts the highest-rated IMDb episode in the franchise, and now others are also joining in.
Close to the success of Episode 5 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms stands the preceding Episode 4, in which Prince Baelor Targaryen chose to face the conflict head-on alongside Ser Duncan the Tall in the Trial of Seven. The tragic effects of this decision set the stage for a brutal consequence for Baelor, culminating in one of the most devastating losses of the debut season.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reaches a rare milestone
Naturally, fans who were deeply emotionally connected to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reacted instantly. That reaction also reflected across rating platforms, the most significant being IMDb. Here, the episode currently holds a 9.8 out of 10 rating. That score makes it the highest-rated installment of the new HBO spinoff so far and places it among the top five highest-rated episodes across all Game of Thrones series.

The pulse in the fans for the airing of the fifth episode was strong, that excitement amply reflected in the reviews and ratings. However, these ratings are dynamic and may change in the future.
Only a handful of episodes from the much-acclaimed original series, like episodes titled Battle of the Bastards, The Winds of Winter, and The Rains of Castamere, hold 9.9 ratings.
Another episode titled Hardhome stands at 9.8. With the fifth episode titled In the Name of the Mother also entering this space, the new series finds itself mentioned as a show that gained remarkable milestones along its way.
The fifth episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms zoomed in on Dunk's past, mainly his trauma-filled childhood, in which he had to endure violence and tragedies. That absence has given the narrative a grounded tonality.
Creator of the Westeros world, George R. R. Martin, has also expressed his approval of this rendition. He has called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms “incredible” and appreciated its loyal portrayal of source material. Season 1 takes on The Hedge Knight, and as per reports already pouring in, a second installment is also underway.
This will draw from the follow-up story, The Sworn Sword. House of the Dragon gained positive reviews. Now, he supported its first season; he later stated that he felt sidelined during Season 2’s development.
Audience reactions to that second season were more mixed, though episodes such as “The Red Dragon and the Gold” still achieved high ratings, including a 9.4 on IMDb.
You can stream the debut season on HBO Max.
