Here is what creator Ira Parker says about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2

As per the outlet, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will have six episodes, just like its predecessor season. In the interview, Ira Parker discussed the future plans in detail, as well as the logistical challenges of filming and production.

Here is what he says:

"It’ll still be six episodes. I think the scope will be same, maybe even smaller. The budget has stayed the same, but everything is more expensive due to inflation. Plus, book two takes place in a drought, so we can’t shoot exteriors in Belfast. We have to go to a sunny location with no water, which costs money — that’s a major expense that we did not have in season one. I’m having a lot of fun season two. It’s going to be a different season, and, I hope, for the better."

Going by Parker's statement, it is evident that the makers are making a conscious choice regarding their episode count. It may even be more compact and intimate, even though the scale remains the same. So the focal point of the series remains the storytelling and its characters.

He also makes it clear that the show's budget remains the same, but the expenses have increased. So it goes without saying that the expenditure has to be done mindfully and in a more economical way. In A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1, the shooting was done in the lush and green landscape of Belfast.

But the story of Season 2 is based on R.R. Martin's The Sworn Sword from the Tales of Dunk and Egg novella series. So, the storyline and visual setup belong to a parched, drought-struck land. So, in order to authentically represent the visual language, there needs to be more logistics for the cast and crew.

But despite the challenges, the makers of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms do see a hopeful and progressive future for the series. So much so, they have already planned for its second season before the release of its debut season. Season 1 was released on January 18, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max. Its early Rotten Tomatoes score is an impressive 87%.

The plot is set 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It explores the story of a tender-hearted knight and his companion as they navigate the meaning of honor and bravery in their walks of life.
