HBO's latest GOT prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, provided a fresh look at the Westeros that we have mostly seen covered in blood. Adapted from George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas, the HBO series tells the story of a commoner rather than just conflicts between the ruling houses of Westeros.

Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a hedge knight, decides to participate in the tournament in Ashford Meadow, accompanied by Egg, his squire. As the show was already renewed for Season 2 ahead of the premiere of Season 1, Ira Parker, the showrunner of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, shared recently in his Esquire interview that he wants to explore all of Dunk and Egg's lives and hopes GRRM keeps writing about them.

More on this in our story.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner discusses exploring Dunk and Egg's lives in the HBO series

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premiered on January 18, 2026, and has dropped two episodes since then. It follows the story of Dunk, who, after the death of his mentor, picks up the mantle and begins his journey of becoming a hedge knight. Along the way, he encounters Egg, a young boy who later accompanies him in his journey to Ashford Meadow, where he wants to participate in the tournament.

In the Esquire interview, Ira Parker was asked about whether he would do three seasons since there are three novellas of Dunk and Egg. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner replied that he wants George R. R. Martin to keep writing stories about the duo. He further stated:

"The truth is - and I've pitched this to HBO with a couple very polite eye rolls - I want to do four or five now with Egg as a kid. Then, I want to come back in ten years and do four or five more seasons with Egg the Prince. And with real Dexter [Ansell] and real Peter, just the age that they are at that point. Then, we’ll come back ten years after that and do well, Egg the adult. So, it would be over the course of their lifetime. And mine too."

It was earlier revealed that Martin has around 12 unpublished stories around Dunk and Egg, which might be included if the HBO series goes beyond three seasons, resulting in Parker exploring more of the duo's journey in the GOT prequel.

Parker also talked about GRRM being happy and satisfied with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, after being disappointed with House of the Dragon's storyline. He stated:

"This one was written for him. It's been a good working relationship, and he's been very helpful through this process. So, I'm glad he likes it."

Tune in to HBO Max on February 1, 2026, to watch Episode 3 of the GOT prequel, which will pick up from right after Episode 2, where Dunk finally earned his spot in the Ashford Tourney.
