A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has gotten fans hooked to the show, and fans are picking up some Game of Thrones easter eggs as the show progresses. The prequel is set in a time before the events of Game of Thrones, and follows the journey of Sir Duncan the Tall, also known as Dunk, as he adapts to the life of a knight, accompanied by his squire, Egg.

The characters are played by Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell, and the duo shows the journey of their characters as they travel across a Targaryen-ruled Westeros.

Episode 5 of the show was released for streaming recently, and fans noticed a subtle but interesting Game of Thrones reference, which was then confirmed by showrunner Ira Parker as well.

The episode shows a scene where we see a young Ser Duncan the Tall taking a walk along Kingsroad with his childhood friend Rafe returning to King's Landing. This scene is reminiscent of another scene that is seen in Game of Thrones, which makes it quite symbolic.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner Ira Parker confirms a Game of Thrones nugget seen in Episode 5 of the show

In episode 5 of the Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, titled "In the Name of the Mother," we see a young Dunk walking down Kingsroad as he is accompanied by his childhood friend, Rafe.

The visual is quite similar to one that we see in Game of Thrones Season 4 Episode 5 titled "First of His Name," where we see Brienne of Tarth taking a walk down the same road after being sent away from King's Landing by Jamie Lannister.

According to showrunner Ira Parker, the detail was a very subtle one, and would not be very easily noticeable for anybody who was not a very deep fan of the show.

"It's the exact same road in Belfast, same trees and everything. There's no attention drawn to it, but anyone who's a deep, deep fan of the show, hopefully, will pick up on that."

The connection with Brienne of Tarth is also obviously symbolic, as she is a descendant of Ser Duncan the Tall, as confirmed by George R.R. Martin himself. In fact, both characters see a very similar arc in the show as well. Both characters are known for their strength and height, but struggle to be taken seriously before rising through the ranks due to sheer dedication and willpower.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms consists of six episodes in total, with the finale airing on February 22, 2026. All previous episodes are also available to stream on HBO Max.
