Right after the announcement, viewers have been eagerly waiting for the release of A Tale of Two Cities. Kit Harington takes on the role of Sydney Carton in this series. The storyline of this four-part series sheds light on a distinct love triangle where two lookalikes pursue one woman. This, in turn, brings forth a nuanced journey where the characters are explored with a modern note. In the interview, Kit Harington notes that, unlike how Charles Dickens' novel depicts Lucie’s character, the series is quite different. In the novel, Lucie is not the primary character, and the main focus of the storyline is on Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton. However, this is not the case for the A Tale of Two Cities series, as Lucie is given much “more agency” in her choices. Kit Harington adds that the goal was to “modernize it” so that the viewers do not feel “distant”. To make this happen, they had to update the characters and also provide the characters with “more drive”. A significant change to A Tale of Two Cities is the language. To make sure the series appeals to a larger audience, the phrasing of the series was also changed. Kit Harington adds that even though the novel is “hundreds of years old," the relevance of the storyline still remains. He thinks that the way the storyline is depicted in the series will be able to draw the younger generation. As a love triangle plays a crucial role in the series, “young people today who can love more than one person at once” will be able to connect with it. Harington thinks the storyline of the series “feels very modern”. It cannot be denied that through the years, adaptations have often taken creative liberties to depict storylines in a newer light. A Tale of Two Cities also does the same with these changes. Besides Kit Harington, who brings life to Sydney Carton’s character in the series, some of the other cast members include Mirren Mack, Ian Pirie, Roxane Duran, etc. Mirren Mack takes on the role of Lucie Manette in the series. Some of Mirren Mack’s other notable projects besides this series include 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Miss Austen, Hedda, etc. A Tale of Two Cities drops on September 6 and will follow a weekly release schedule for the remaining episodes.
