Agent Kim Reactivated Episode 8 breakdown: Manager Kim crosses path with his former commander from the North

Agent Kim Reactivated episode 8 is out for streaming, and right from the beginning, viewers get to witness a twist that no one saw coming. Following the end of episode 7, fans would have wondered what might happen to Manager Kim after he's sent back to North Korea, but when the truth is revealed, even Kim is left startled.

The synopsis of Agent Kim Reactivated episode 8 reads:

"Manager Kim is captured and tortured until the Special Missions Directorate steps in with a final mission. Ju Kang-chan makes a plan to get revenge."

The episode follows Kim being assigned his final mission in South Korea. If he succeeds in the mission, he and Min-ji will be given a new identity, and the officials have promised never to pull him back for such tasks.

But little did Manager Kim know that Kang-chan's involvement and the determination to take revenge would ultimately ruin his mission. When Mole Cricket arrives at Jin-cheol's place, he reveals that Kim has failed the mission, and now it's time for him and Ri Eung-ryeong to go back to their country.

Agent Kim Reactivated episode 8 recap: Manager Kim’s loyalty is tested before his final mission

Episode 8 of Agent Kim Reactivated starts with Kim enduring torture, and since his beard has grown, it's clear that he has been kept in that room for weeks. One official is assigned to torture him and ask Kim about his life in South Korea.

However, he remains silent and endures the pain without any reaction. The interrogation then reaches a breaking point when one of the soldiers takes Min-ji's name and says that he will torture her as well, forcing Mr. Kim to react immediately by killing him.

Soon after escaping, he discovers that the entire ordeal was never real. Mole Cricket and his superior reveal that the interrogation had been staged by South Korean authorities to determine whether he was still loyal. Satisfied with the outcome, they decide to keep him alive for one final assignment instead of eliminating him.

As episode 8 of Agent Kim Reactivated continues, Kim is offered a deal that promises freedom for both himself and Min-ji, along with new identities. In return, he must protect a high-ranking North Korean official seeking asylum in South Korea before the upcoming inter-Korean talks. Although he agrees, he refuses to proceed until Min-ji’s safety is guaranteed and both Han-su and Jin-cheol are released from custody.

Agent Kim Reactivated episode 8 recap: Old allies reunite as powerful figures begin plotting against Mr Kim

As Manager Kim sets out on his new mission, Jin-cheol and Han-su are drugged and then abandoned in a remote area, Haenam (located at the southernmost end of the country). Han-su realizes that this must be Mole Cricket's idea to leave them in such a place so that they struggle a little bit more before going back to their daily lives.

Han-su released himself, and Jin-cheol also managed to untie himself. Once Jin-cheol reaches home, he finds that life has continued without him. His daughter had no idea he had disappeared, while his wife avoided him because he smells really bad and looks dirty.

On the other side, in episode 8 of Agent Kim Reactivated, Kang-chan hasn't recovered from the humiliation he faced in front of Kim and Min-ji. During a meeting with an assemblyman, he learns that official records for both Mr. Kim and Min-ji no longer exist, making them practically invisible on paper.

Confident that the upcoming inter-Korean talks could benefit them, the two continue discussing their own interests. Meanwhile, the North Korean official seeking asylum finally reaches South Korea after a carefully planned sea transfer.

Mr. Kim is shocked to discover that the defector is actually his former superior, a director general accused of leaking intelligence connected to the disastrous mission that claimed 66 lives two years earlier. Besides his past, the man also possesses highly sensitive information about North Korea’s missile program, making him an extremely valuable target.

Kim escorts the former director general to a safe house, and Sang-a and the laundromat owner have already been waiting for them. They set up the security system, and as episode 8 of Agent Kim Reactivated moves forward, we see that the defector has secretly hidden an information disk inside a wound on his own body.

At the same time, Min-ji is taken to the SMD headquarters, where Mole Cricket tells her she will only see her father again if he successfully completes his assignment. After the North Korean delegation arrives, Kang-chan forms another alliance with them to help eliminate Mr. Kim in exchange for information about the missing director general.

When Kim and the other two officials suspect there are people approaching them, Kim immediately uses his brain and takes Ru Eung-ryeong with him using another vehicle. Realizing the enemy keeps finding their location, he warns Sang-a that someone inside SMD may be leaking information.

Kim reaches Jin-cheol's trailer, where the two are relieved and stunned to see that Kim is alive. However, the reunion is short-lived as Mole Cricket and SMD agents arrive almost immediately. Claiming that Mr. Kim has failed his assignment, Mole Cricket announces that both he and the North Korean director general will be sent back across the border.
