All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 Episode 4 recap: Big step for Jenny, tough call for Helen, Siegfried fears losing Mrs. Hall

Channel 5's feel-good dramedy, All Creatures Great and Small Season 6, starring Nicholas Ralph, is now on PBS Masterpiece. New episodes drop every Sunday at 9 PM ET.

This week's episode, 'Jenny Wren,' begins on a happy note as Helen's sister gets accepted into the nursing college. However, it looks like neither Jenny nor Helen is ready for the big move. Meanwhile, Siegfried panics when Mrs. Hall tells him that she wishes to spend time with her granddaughter in Suderland to celebrate her first birthday.

Here's what happened in Episode 4 of All Creatures Great and Small Season 6.

All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 Episode 4 recap: Jenny gets into nursing college

All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 Episode 4 starts with Helen, Jenny, Robert, and James working at the Alderson farm. Robert isn't happy with how James is setting the stones for the boundaries. Robert stops him and jokes about it. He tells James that he's best suited for sorting, and it takes three to four years of experience to master picking.

As they chatter along, Jenny gets a letter. Jenny has finally made it to the nursing college, St. Thomas Hospital, London. It's happy news, but are the sisters ready for the big move? Is Jenny ready to leave the Alderson farm? Can she adjust to her new life in a new city?

Jenny has just three weeks for the final registration. Helen asks her to write down what she would require and pack her bags. To know more, watch All Creatures Great and Small Season 6.

Mrs. Hall asks for a leave, and Siegfried panics

Back at the Skeldale House, Mrs. Hall has a request. She requests that Siegfried grant her leave so that she can attend her granddaughter Rosie's birthday in Suderland. She offers to prepare pies. However, Siegfried tells her that they are perfectly capable of looking after themselves in her absence.

Tristan interrupts their conversation and inquires about croquet. Turns out, Charlotte has invited him to General Beauvoir's croquet lunch. Siegfried jokes about it, although Tristan seems determined to learn. Mrs. Hall assures that she will help.

Siegfried treats Mrs. Stokes' goat, Helga

In this episode of All Creatures Great and Small Season 6, Siegfried's first patient for the day is Mrs. Stokes' goat Helga. She claims that her goat is lame. At first glance, it doesn't look lame at all. In fact, Helga runs away from Siegfried, and his chasing the goat right in the middle of the street is hilarious.

However, when he visits Helga at the Mrs. Stokes farm, he understands what's wrong with her. Mrs. Stokes and Siegfried hide and watch Helga struggling with her feet. When Siegfried examines her further, she finds out that Hilda has a Shelly hoof. Siegfried tells Mrs. Stokes that sometimes goats pretend to be fine to protect themselves.

Helen worries about Jenny leaving for London

Back at the Alderson farmhouse, everybody celebrates Jenny's acceptance into the nursing college. Jenny gets all excited about dance halls as Jamie and Siegfried talk about London dance halls. But Robert isn't pleased. Amidst the conversation, Helen gets a bit taken aback when the topic of Jenny leaving home arises. She isn't ready for her baby sister to leave home. She thought Helen would attend college and would be back at the farm. The feeling that she might be leaving forever for her studies and career hit Helen like a sudden jolt.

When Helen asks about her accommodation in London, Jenny tells her that she will figure it out later. Jenny asks Helen to relax. Helen excuses herself. James follows her to the stable. She tells him that she feels Jenny's not ready yet.

At the Beauvoirs' mansion, Tristan asks Charlotte whether she had told her father about them. Charlotte tells him that she does not need her father's approval.

While finding towels for Jenny, Helen finds their heirloom patchwork blanket. It brings back loads of happy memories. She shows it to James and a patch that her mother sewed for Jenny Wren. However, Robert takes James to the stable as a horse was feeling unwell. Turns out the horse has mastitis.

In Episode 4 of All Creatures Great and Small Season 6, Mrs. Hall teaches Tristan croquet. Siegfried still panics and tries to prepare lunch for himself, but fails. He then eats a can of sardines. When Mrs. Hall asks if he wants lunch, he says no. However, it clearly looks like Siegfried is not happy with Mrs. Hall leaving for a few weeks. He simply pretends that he'll be fine. In reality, he'll surely be a mess.

Later, Jenny panics and tells Helen that she isn't ready to leave. Helen and Robert have a heartfelt chat about how they struggled after Helen's mother's death. How little Helen had to take up Jenny's responsibility. Helen spoke to Jenny and motivated her to go to London.

Tristan visits the Beauvoirs for the croquet lunch

Tristan visits the Beauvoirs for the croquet lunch. It seems like General Beauvoir isn't quite pleased with his presence at first. Lord Neville mocks him, but Tristan doesn't react. They invite him for a game of billiards. However, Tristan has no idea how to play it, and Charlotte guides him. General Beauvoir tries to belittle him, but Tristan doesn't give up. He gives them back respectfully and hands them Philbrick's fee bill before leaving.

Later, while Tristan talks about how he must have lost his only chance to win over Charlotte's father's heart, General Beauvoir interrupts their conversation. He tells him that all that he cares for is his daughter's happiness. It seems like he's accepted Tristan. He asks him to teach him bar billiards.

In the end, Siegfried finally confesses his true emotions to Mrs. Hall. He asks when she's coming back. He also confesses that he's scared of her leaving.

Jenny asks Helen to accompany her to London to help her settle. Robert installs a telephone at Alderson's farm. Also, he's surprised and impressed with John's work at the boundary.
