American Horror Story Season 13 brings a fresh nightmare to TV — release schedule revealed

Thirteen has long carried an ominous reputation and American Horror Story Season 13 seems ready to embrace every bit of it. As Ryan Murphy's beloved horror anthology returns with its latest chapter, titled American Horror Story: 13, it feels like the start of a horrific nightmare.

After a string of nightmarish settings, including a traveling freak show, a haunted hotel and a coven of witches, American Horror Story Season 13 will return on FX on Hulu on September 24.

The ominous thirteenth installment marks the return of veteran franchise stars, who will reprise their iconic characters, in a homage to the anthology's decades-long run. The official logline for the upcoming season asks fans to light their candles, draw their pentagrams and prepare for a supreme surprise.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy teased that the upcoming season will be a treat for seasoned fans, filled with Easter eggs and the return of many beloved characters:

“This season is a thank you to the fans for continuing to watch... We also had a lot of the original costumes still in storage that we got to use. So there are little Easter eggs threaded around in the set decoration..."

American Horror Story Season 13 will debut with a three-episode premiere on FX and Hulu on September 24 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.

The upcoming season of the horror anthology series consists of 13 half-hour episodes. The first two weeks will feature three new episodes, followed by two new episodes each week, until the Season 13 finale on October 29.

Who are the cast members in American Horror Story Season 13?

Since American Horror Story Season 13 is positioned as a thank-you to fans, beloved franchise veterans will return and reprise their iconic characters.

The returning star cast for the upcoming season includes Sarah Paulson, who will play a string of her past characters, including Cordelia Goode, Sally McKenna, Ms. Wilhelmina Venable, Tuberculosis Karen, and Mamie Eisenhower; Jessica Lange playing all four of her iconic characters, including Constance Langdon, Sister Jude Martin, Fiona Goode, and Elsa Mars, and Evan Peters playing five characters, including Tate Langdon, James Patrick March, and Kai Anderson.

Rounding out the returning cast for American Horror Story Season 13 are actors Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, John Carroll Lynch, Mat Fraser, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, Mena Suvari, Zach Villa and Seth Gabel.

That's not all! The upcoming season is set to welcome several new faces into the beloved horror franchise. These include Paul Anthony Kelly (Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette) as Young Nas, Alex Consani as Morwenna, Avantika (Not Suitable for Work) as Ophelia, Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) as Kira, John Waters (Til Death Do Us Part) as Mr. Phibes, and Joey Pollari (American Crime) as Ben DeSoto.
