American Hostage is MGM+'s upcoming crime-thriller anthology series based on the eponymous scripted psychological podcast directed by Shawn Christensen.
MGM+'s upcoming series revisits the 1970s Indianapolis hostage crisis. The series follows Indianapolis radio reporter Fred Heckman, who is thrust into a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program.
With its intriguing premise and talented lineup of actors such as Jon Hamm and Giovanni Ribisi, American Hostage has already sparked interest among crime-thriller fans looking for a new mystery to unravel.
Here is the complete cast.
Jon Hamm and Giovanni Ribisi lead the American Hostage cast
Actors Jon Hamm and Giovanni Ribisi lead the American Hostage cast as beloved Indianapolis radio reporter Fred Heckman and hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis, respectively.
Emmy and Golden Globe Awards-winning actor Jon Hamm is best known for portraying Don Draper in AMC's period drama series Mad Men. Hamm's recent small-screen roles include Paramount+'s drama series Landman, Apple TV's dark-comedy series Your Friends & Neighbors, and the comedy-drama series The Morning Show.
For MGM+'s upcoming series, Jon Hamm takes on the role of radio reporter Fred Heckman, who finds himself in the middle of a life-or-death crisis when kidnapper Tony Kiritsis presents an unusual demand. Heckman's commitment and honesty to his work become his biggest threat when Kiritsis demands a live interview on his radio program in a bid to air his grievances about the local mortgage broker publicly.
Fred Heckman is in sharp contrast to Hamm's beloved Don Draper, but both are smart, ambitious men and masters of their respective fields. Speaking with National Post, Jon Hamm weighed in on the major difference between the two characters:
“The difference, I think, with Don Draper is that he, as an advertising creative person is driving the narrative and driving the conversation, whereas Fred, being a journalist, is trying to be neutral, is trying to just report the facts.”
Dads and Sneaky Pete fame actor Giovanni Ribisi takes on the role of Tony Kiritsis in American Hostage.
The 1977 event, widely followed by the local and national media, started when Tony Kiritsis obtained land for commercial development through mortgage broker Richard O. Hall. After Hall refused to offer him time for additional payment, Kiritsis held Hall hostage and demanded a live interview on Heckman's radio program.
The additional cast for American Hostage

In addition to Jon Hamm and Giovanni Ribisi, the American Hostage cast includes the following actors:
1) Mireille Enos (For All Mankind, The Catch) as Barbara Heckman: Enos takes on the role of Barbara, Fred's wife in the drama series. The intelligent and perceptive Barbara's life takes a turn when her husband is thrust into the middle of a hostage crisis.
2) William Jackson Harper (The Good Place, The Underground Railroad) as Ben Hairston: Fred's mentee and a fellow reporter at WIBC News, Ben plays an important role as he bridges the gap between Fred and Tony, while keeping his mentor in check during the pivotal interview.
3) Kristoffer Polaha (Life Unexpected, Wonder Woman 1984) as Dick Hall: Polaha will take on the role of Dick Hall, Tony's mortgage broker and the president of Meridian Mortgage, who is taken hostage during the crisis.
Actors Jonathan Tucker (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Kat Cunning (Sleep No More) also appear in the recurring characters of Cormac McNally and Ibby Hall, respectively.
