Aquamarine TV reboot cast: Returning stars, new appearances and more

Disney+'s Aquamarine series is slowly taking shape. The iconic studio surprised the fans of the cult 2006 movie by announcing a TV series that would be set decades after the twenty-year-old film. This week, the cast of the series expanded with the return of Jake McDorman's Raymond, who served as the love interest in the 2006 movie.

It seems that the new series will follow Raymond's daughter Coral, who will be played by Kenzi Richardson. The Aquamarine series would be a blend of the old and new cast members, along with the original director, Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum.

Jake McDorman as Raymond (Old)

Jake McDorman is the latest cast addition to the Disney+ series. PEOPLE exclusively published a report this afternoon that McDorman is returning as the character two decades after one of his earliest roles. Raymond got together with Aquamarine after the movie and had a daughter, Coral. However, he is a single father by the time the series begins, as the titular mermaid is missing.

40-year-old McDorman has appeared in supporting roles in acclaimed movies like American Sniper and Lady Bird. However, the actor has had a prolific career in the small screen, as he appeared as main characters in shows like Limitless, Mrs. Davis, and Class of '09.

Kenzi Richardson as Coral (New)

Kenzi Richardson is amongst the younger Aquamarine TV reboot cast members. It seems that Coral's relationship with her father might be a bit complicated, as he struggles to connect with his teenage kid while simultaneously "mourning" his romantic partner's absence.

Kenzi doesn't have a long career, but she was the star of last year's Vampirina: Teenage Vampire series on Disney+.

Annika Reese as Paige (New)

Annika Reese will be the mean girl of this series. While the mean girl was Cecilia in the 2006 movie, this time it is Paige (Reese). The character description describes her as a “sharp and stylish queen bee of the beach club”. However, the same description also teases that she is not just a stereotypical bully.

Reese is a Broadway actress, and one of his popular roles is that of Young Nala in the stage version of The Lion King.

Emma Roberts as Claire Brown (Old)

Claire Brown, along with her best friend, Hailey Rogers, helped the mermaid in wooing Raymond in the original movie. The two friends helped Aquamarine so that they would not be separated as Hailey is moving to Australia. But towards the end, the two friends part ways after bidding farewell to the mermaid before she rejoined her underwater world. Now, we will see Claire as an adult in the series, but we don't have any details about her character.

Emma Roberts is a prolific actress who has played multiple roles in American Horror Story, since the seventh season, Cult.

Apart from the four above, two more new cast additions include:

• Theodore Dalton as August
• Briella Guiza as Coral’s friend Mia

As of now, Sara Paxton's and Joanna "JoJo" Levesque's roles as the titular mermaid and Hailey Rogers remain unconfirmed.

The 2006 movie might be available through one of the streaming services, as it was originally distributed by 20th Century Fox.
