So, the joke begins with a detail involving McConaughey’s mother and Harrelson’s father. She had said that she knew Woody’s father during the late 1960s, and Fallon immediately became interested in when that meeting supposedly happened.

Fallon's punchline was that the timing was nine months before McConaughey was born. He then raised the obvious question of how that could fit with McConaughey’s parents being married.

The answer became another part of the joke, as McConaughey explained that his parents were going through their second divorce at the time. From there, the conversation became almost entirely about one number: nine.

The numbers continued when they discussed Woody’s parents. His father married his mother in 1959, and their marriage lasted four years and 11 months.
