Below: The miniseries started with a series of shocking deaths

Episode 1 of Below Season 1 was very tragic because Calvin couldn't save his father from sinking in the Newfoundland waters. When his father went inside the house, he saw something unusual in the water, and soon after, the house started sinking. As a result, Calvin had to cut the rope to save their boat, but unfortunately he couldn't save his father from drowning, who was inside the house.
At the end of the episode, Wade confronted the same monster that had once appeared before his father in childhood and was left horrified while holding half of Jerry's lifeless body.
According to Show Snob, in episode 2, more shocking deaths led Calvin and Fonda to find the truth. A full team of divers searched Jerry's boat underwater while Calvin recalled how the house sank with his father inside when he saw pieces of his boat floating in the water.
After Calvin and Fonda reached the campsite, they found that the equipment belonged to his Airbnb guests and witnessed human body parts.
Who was the mysterious woman from Wade's dream?

In Below season 1 episode 2, Wade woke up from a disturbing dream where he walked unclothed along a dock, following a strange woman seated at the top of an iceberg.
He collapsed to the floor and peered under his bed and noticed that a filthy, blood-stained foot was pointed toward him. The same woman from his dream climbed onto the bed and stared at him as he lay on the ground.
Netflix mentioned that the mysterious woman who appeared in Wade's nightmare was revealed to be a local mythological character known as The Old Hag. Her true identity was Maggie Budgell, and she was brought to life on screen by actress Marthe Bernard.
Below: Calvin found a mining permit issued by the Crocker Group

Episode 5 revealed that Calvin found that the giant squid named Mudder had worked with the small group on the island. Meanwhile, Jay planned to escape his debts by inventing a story that he had found the money, but Connor, the man taken by the squid, had run off with it. The plan was far too simple to succeed, but it remained to be seen.
While working on the fish, Calvin fell into a hole in the ground and landed inside a mine. He discovered blue dust on the rocks and noticed a sign on the wall for a mining permit issued by the Crocker Group.
Calvin talked to Walton about the mine, and Walton's father revealed that the Crockers discovered cobalt and copper. That was the reason they were being forced to resettle, now that the true value of their land was known.
Below season 1 ending explained: Calvin saved the squid
The final episode of Below season 1 opened with Calvin and Wade drifting in the ocean after their escape from Walton's control. Calvin admitted his mistake and apologized to Wade for stopping him from working on the boats. Meanwhile, Snook's Arm had fallen into disorder as soldiers assisted in evacuating the townspeople. It was revealed that Jan was Jim Crocker's daughter who had been hiding her true intentions all along.
In Below, Jan and Jim confronted Fonda for helping Calvin move the iceberg and the squid into deeper waters, but they wanted her to stop Calvin from interfering with the military operation. Fonda refused, and Jim threatened her job, but she did not want to accept their money. Jan tried to steal her radio, but Fonda slapped Jan to the ground.
Calvin stopped at deeper waters and spoke to the squid before cutting the ropes of the net. A helicopter then arrived to strike the iceberg. Jim ordered the military officer to attack even with Calvin in the strike zone, but the officer went against Jim’s command and told his men to stand down because the squid no longer posed a danger to the harbor.
In the end, Calvin protected the giant squid and her eggs while Fonda revealed that the large iceberg in the harbor was actually the squid’s nest, but the eggs could not hatch in the warm and shallow water. Calvin acted quickly to stop the airstrike planned by Jim Crocker and the military by pulling the iceberg farther into the sea. As a result, it gave the squid more space.
Calvin’s action also prevented Snook’s Arm from facing the resettlement vote, which had been controlled by Crocker and his daughter Jan. They had tried to force the residents off the island so they could exploit the cobalt and copper hidden underground, which was extremely valuable. If the residents had accepted the deal, they would not have realized the true worth of their land.
