In the fourth episode of Best Medicine, some of the townspeople begin to suffer from food poisoning. Initially, Martin thinks that the cause of this problem is the food from Salty Breeze, causing him to raise a complaint for an investigation. It cannot be denied that from the beginning of the series, Martin was not able to get close to the townspeople because of his own issues.
Despite his distant nature, Greg and George tried their best to have a friendly relationship with Martin. Hence, Martin sabotaging their business, albeit out of concern for the health of the townspeople, affects his relationship with Greg and George. In this episode, Stephen Spinella’s depiction of Greg after he finds that their restaurant is closing down leaves an impact.
At the end of the fourth episode of Best Medicine, Martin is able to understand the trouble he has caused the people of the town. Though he did it in his logical way, he understands that his mistake of jumping to a conclusion almost made Greg and George lose Salty Breeze and also Briscuit.
Eventually, he helps Greg and George to get back Briscuit, which makes his aunt happy. His dynamic with Elaine also takes a positive turn. Instead of the incessant banter, Elaine opens up about her emotional struggle because of her mother to Martin.
