The annual festival celebrates a horror novel by author Jeremy Gathercole. This Best Medicine episode also reveals that Louisa is diagnosed with hemochromatosis, a blood disorder in which her blood has too much iron.This diagnosis comes back in the last act of this episode, as Louisa's disorder causes her pain in the middle of a live performance. As this happens, Dr. Best runs to her aid. After that, Jeremy Gathercole makes a cameo appearance in this episode as the guest of honor in Blood Factory, played by Evan Handler.
