Steven Knight's A Thousand Blows premiered on Disney+ in February 2025. The historical drama is inspired by a real-life crime syndicate called Forty Elephants from late nineteenth-century London. It also narrates the story of Hezekiah Moscow and Alec Munroe, two immigrants who came to London from Jamaica in search of better life opportunities and became entangled in schemes that ultimately harmed both their lives.

Season 2 of A Thousand Blows is set to premiere on January 9, 2026, and will pick up from where it left off in Season 1. While talking to Radio Times, creator Steven Knight shared how the latest season will be different from Season 1, which introduced the plot and characters. He revealed that Season 2 will explore more about the characters that were 'established' perfectly in the premiere season and stated:

"Once people are invested in the characters, I think you're then at liberty to go a bit deeper and be a bit more expansive with each of the characters."

More on this in our story.

Steven Knight talks about A Thousand Blows Season 2

In Season 1 of A Thousand Blows, Hezekiah/Hez rose to fame quickly because of his boxing skills and caught both the Forty Elephants' leader, Mary, and Sugar Goodson, the underground boxing champion's eye. While navigating this newfound fame, Hez has struggled with anger issues after facing discrimination in a foreign land, which also resulted in his killing his opponent at the end of Season 1.

Season 1 perfectly introduced all the characters and established a connection between them, which gave us numerous intense plots of betrayal and trust issues. The Peaky Blinders' creator shared his views with Radio Times on how establishing character storylines and drawing in the audience is important, and also stated how this might be the reason why A Thousand Blows Season 1 was a hit among viewers.

He further explained how Season 1's storyline gave them room to expand the character storylines in Season 2. He also revealed how he wanted to put the 'characters to test' in the latest season of the historical drama, and stated:

"What I wanted to do was to put them in situations where - and it does happen in the series - they really are put to the test. And also to begin the series by splitting them up and then seeing how, like a force of gravity, they're actually always going to come back together, because that's who they are."

He further added:

"I really enjoyed getting those characters to do what those characters do, but also trying, where possible, to make it unexpected."

At the end of Season 1, Hez and Mary had parted ways because of her keeping secrets from him. Therefore, more about how they will navigate their lives with not many people left on their sides will be explored in Season 2.

A Thousand Blows Season 2 brings back Malachi Kirby as Hez, Erin Doherty as Mary, and Stephen Graham as Sugar, among several other characters.
