Black Doves Season 2 gives viewers a better look at something the first season only touched on: the secretive spy group. Season 1 showed how Helen worked as a spy for the Black Doves. However, there was still a lot viewers didn't know about the organization itself.

In the new season, viewers can see the inner workings of the spy organization and how the Black Doves actually operate. Speaking of Black Doves Season 2, Creator Joe Barton told Tudum that:

"It was really fun in this series to dig into the [Black Doves] organization more than we did in the first series and actually see a bit of how it works behind the scenes, and then blow it all up slightly."

According to a statement shared by Tudum, Season 2 takes a closer look at how the Black Doves work, showing more about the people running the group and the agents working for it. It also shows how the organization carries out its operations.

Speaking about the differences between the two seasons, creator Joe Barton told Tudum that Season 2 gave the team a chance to explore the Black Doves organization in more detail. According to his statement, he also wanted to show viewers more about how the group works and what goes on within it before turning everything upside down.

Black Doves Season 2 brings back Keira Knightley as Helen and Ben Whishaw as Sam. Together, they deal with new problems involving Patrick, Reed's disappearance, and secrets from the past.

The new season gives viewers a closer look at the Black Doves and how the organization works. Unlike the first season, which mostly followed Helen and Sam, this time viewers learn more about the people running the group, including Reed and Mr. Conteh. The season also shows the headquarters and what happens when someone from within the organization turns against it.

This gives a clearer picture of how the members work together while showing how problems within the organization begin to affect it. Barton described the approach as digging into how the unit works and then blowing "it all up slightly."

Joe Barton also explained how Helen's role changes in Black Doves Season 2, saying that being the prime minister's wife puts her in a position where the risks are higher. He added:

"The information she’s stealing is bigger, and the betrayals that she’s committing against her country are bigger."

Speaking about Reed's storyline in Season 2, Barton said he wanted to show a more personal side of her by exploring her past and giving viewers a better look at her softer, more vulnerable side.

Talking about where he wanted to take the story in Season 2, Joe Barton told Tudum previously that he wanted Helen to become more involved in the spy world, especially after she came so close to walking away from it. He also said Wallace's growing career could put her in more danger. Barton added that he wanted to bring back characters like Sam, Eleanor, Williams, and Kai-Ming and show them facing new challenges.

The second season was filmed across London, including locations like Somerset House, Battersea Park, and Trafalgar Square, along with Hertfordshire and Nazzano in Italy.
