If you are worried about the end of Marvel Zombies after a single season's run, you can rest assured that this is not the case. Brad Winderbaum, who oversees streaming, TV, and animation productions for Marvel Studios, appeared on a podcast titled The Escape Pod. He announced that Marvel Zombies Season 2 is not only being discussed but is also being produced.

His remarks were interesting because of the confirmation, and also because of what he said after that. When he appeared on the podcast, Brad Winderbaum said he had already seen the first animatic for the first episode of Marvel Zombies Season 2 and described it as "crazy." He also said he was unable to show anything yet, teasing that the episode not only delivers on the zombie perspective but also includes "an MCU thing that has never really happened before," which the team is very excited about. The last part is what got fans buzzing.

For those of you who may not know what an animatic is, it is basically a rough visual version of the script, and all of the writing has been completed for this season, as well as the mapping out of the scenes. This indicates that they are well into producing the show. Therefore, this is not just preliminary planning but actual advancement.

How did Marvel Zombies Season 1 set it all up?

To understand why Marvel Zombies Season 2 has so much hype behind it, we have to start where Season 1 left off. Marvel Zombies debuted on Disney+ in 2025 and depicted what would happen if there were a zombie plague among the Avengers, with a group of people trying to prevent the undead from continuing to spread. With its TV-MA rating, Marvel Zombies was one of the most adult things that Marvel has created in animated form.

The finale of Season 1 was not simple by any means and was difficult to process, to say the least. Scarlet Witch used the abilities of Infinity Hulk and Ms. Marvel to reshape the world, and the subsequent outcome was quite far from an ideal ending. The real Kamala ended up getting trapped inside a world that resembles the outside, normal to everyone, but is actually dominated by zombies. At the conclusion of that season, it was left ambiguous whether Ironheart was still alive and making attempts to reach Kamala, which gave a clear path for the story to grow.

What do we know about Marvel Zombies Season 2?

Ever since September 2025, when he made mention of it during an interview with IGN, Winderbaum has provided bits and pieces of information regarding Season 2. During that interview, he stated that he regards the Marvel Zombies universe as more expansive than what was explored in Season 1. He also noted that there were characters they wished to add in Season 1 but couldn't fit into the storyline due to space limitations. Season 2 will therefore be larger in terms of scope and will have new characters joining the cast.

Winderbaum had previously mentioned, before Season 1's release, that the scale of the initial show concept was far greater than what was ultimately produced. As a result, many characters had to be removed, as there simply wasn't enough room to tell their stories. If Season 2 were to occur, his wish was to ensure that all of these characters got their due time on screen. It now appears as though that is exactly what is about to happen.

On April 6, 2026, the second season of the show was officially announced on The Escape Pod podcast when Winderbaum appeared. No solid release date has yet been confirmed, and they are still keeping tight wraps on the storyline. However, since the animatic is already undergoing internal review, you can tell that the production process has accelerated to a pace probably many weren't expecting.

Several people, including big names like Elizabeth Olsen, Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, Iman Vellani, Wagner Moura, David Harbour, and Dominique Thorne, made up the cast in Season 1. Marvel has not said if all of them will return in Season 2, but given that the storyline continues, it is expected that at least some of them will return.
