Keira Knightley is back as undercover spy Helen Webb in Black Doves Season 2. The second installment of Netflix's spy action thriller series took a dangerous turn for Helen's secret identity, as her husband, Wallace, became the UK's Prime Minister.
According to Netflix Tudum, Wallace's ascent to power entangled Helen in a web of British politics. Things took a turn as Black Doves Season 2 introduced Katia Chernov, the widow of Alexi Chernov, who pushed her into assassinating her husband during a peace summit in the finale. Katia and her forces took control of the Black Doves headquarters and pushed Helen to assassinate the Prime Minister in the finale, which led to Knightley's character revealing the truth to Wallace.
Black Doves Season 2 ending breakdown: Katia Chernov's real identity comes to light

In Black Doves Season 2, Helen's icy handler, Mrs. Reed, was held captive in a remote country house by Patrick, a mysterious emissary who envisioned overtaking Black Doves' headquarters and aligned himself with Katia's larger plot. While Katia's destructive motive remained a mystery, Patrick blackmailed Sam with an incriminating video of Helen from her early days as a spy. Left with no choice, Sam delivered Reed to Patrick, seemingly ending the blackmail plot.
In the finale, Katia emerged from the shadows and revealed her plan to overtake the Black Doves organization. She pushed Helen to the brink and ordered her to murder the Prime Minister at the peace summit, which would destroy Black Doves completely.
While Helen was faced with the devastating choice to either kill her husband or protect the organization in the Black Doves Season 2 finale, Katia's real identity came to light. It turns out Katia was actually Vita, Mrs. Reed's long-lost daughter who grew up in a Soviet orphanage without an identity or name. Vita blamed Mrs. Reed for abandoning her in childhood and grew up plotting revenge against her and her Black Doves organization.
Black Doves Season 2 ending breakdown: Did Helen kill Wallace?
One of the highly anticipated plot points from the Black Doves Season 2 finale was Helen's decision. While it looked like Helen would assassinate her husband in the car, she set a smart trap that saved his life but exposed her secret about her double life in front of her husband. During a tense conversation, Helen admitted the truth to Wallace in the Black Doves Season 2 finale:
“In some ways, you know me better than anyone else in the world. And in other ways, you don’t know me at all. I was born with a different name, a different voice.”
With Katia monitoring her every move, Helen reached Wallace through a hidden earpiece inside his car and revealed the truth about their marriage, leaving out some details. Helen fired a shot at the window behind Wallace rather than at him, faking the attempt and saving his life while dodging her orders.
How did Black Doves Season 2 end?

Katia and Mrs. Reed came face-to-face amid the shootout at the Black Doves headquarters. Katia infiltrated the headquarters with inside help from Dani. While Eleanor, Williams, and Laila moved in to rescue a captured Reed, Patrick made a run for it.
As Vita took her final breath after suffering a fatal wound, Reed confessed that she loved her daughter. Once the chaos settled, Black Doves' leaders Reed and Conteh were left to deal with the fallout.
After the harrowing attack on headquarters, the Black Doves Season 2 finale featured a bittersweet reunion between Sam and Helen at Trafalgar Square. Believing Helen and the others would be safer if he removed himself from the picture, Sam decided to return to the Italian village where he took refuge, leaving his fate uncertain.
In the final moments of Black Doves Season 2, Helen sat down with Wallace to deliver the full truth about their marriage. While Helen confessed their marriage was built on a lie, Wallace demanded answers. The finale concluded on a tense note as Wallace asked Helen to come clean:
“Let’s start with your name and work from there."
In an interview with Netflix Tudum, showrunner Joe Barton discussed the ending and how it will become an interesting starting point for a potential third season:
“To get into the fallout from this and Wallace knowing Helen’s true identity is such a big thing that it kind of needs its own series. The whole nucleus of Helen is that she’s got this secret life, and what happens when that secret comes out is such a fascinating thing.”
