Carrie is Mike Flanagan's latest supernatural horror miniseries on Prime Video, based on Stephen King's 1974 novel. Unlike previous adaptations, Flanagan's miniseries is set in the present day and features many changes from King's canon, particularly about the titular character's (played by Summer H. Howell) ultimate fate and a shocking reveal about her domineering mother, Margaret.

According to IMDB, the official synopsis for the series reads as follows:

"A sheltered girl with telekinetic powers is bullied, leading to a horrific, bloody incident due to her domineering mother's influence."

The miniseries follows teenage Carrie White's arrival at a public school, after spending much of her life in seclusion with her mother.

According to Games Radar and Nerdist, the series' finale featured the infamous prom massacre, which Sue recalled while being interviewed by an unidentified woman (played by Kate Siegel). The final episode featured many shocking reveals, some of which were diversions from King's novel, setting the stage for a potential Season 2.

Here's what happened in the series' finale.

The finale came full circle. Sue recalled the harrowing events of the prom night to the unidentified interviewer. Sue reflected on how Carrie was made the prom queen but the moment took a shocking turn when the protagonist was doused in pig blood by Chris and Billy. Naturally, the students were thrilled at the spectacle and began recording it on their phones. But the titular character made all the phones explode and set the stage on fire. Tommy and the Principal were killed in the chaos and Howell's character moved to the final stage of her revenge.

Sue recalled how Emaline and two other strange women with telekinesis powers helped Carrie. The group locked the gym doors and set the place on fire, killing over 200 students. Carrie and Emaline then shifted their attention to Chris and Billy, who were attempting to escape in their car. But Carrie caused the car to crash and then collapsed the vehicle's roof onto their heads, resulting in their deaths.

Margaret is revealed to have telekinetic powers

The titular character initially enjoyed her win and danced on the street with Emaline. But Carrie was jolted out of the trance after she noticed the destruction around her. She ran to her mother, Margaret, and hugged her; Margaret then put her blood-soaked daughter in the bathtub. Once Margaret realized that Carrie had transformed into a deadly weapon, she planned to stab her in the head. But the titular character managed to stop the weapon using her powers and instead stabbed her mother in the back.

In a shocking moment, Howell's character used her powers to bring the whole house down. But the titular character survived as she was rescued by Emaline, who drove her off in her car. As for Margaret, she was revealed to have telekinetic powers. Margaret held a piece of the roof above her head and emerged from the house alive.

In another twist, the unidentified interviewer concluded Margaret's interview and decided that it was time for her to rest. Using her strange powers, the woman made Margaret's heart stop until she died. The woman ordered the two women from the prom night to take Margaret's body to the hotel room, a move that suggested people would assume she died of heart failure.

How did Carrie end?

The unknown woman expressed her frustration when Margaret revealed that her daughter was whisked away by Emaline. Before murdering Margaret, the woman revealed that Emaline is a highly dangerous astral projector.

In the final moments of the series, Carrie survived the events of Season 1 and was on her way with Emaline, who assured her she was taking her someplace safe. While it is canon for the titular character to die at the end, in both King's novel and many previous live-action adaptations, Flanagan's series opted for a different fate, keeping the doors open for a potential Season 2.

With the woman and Emaline's true identities and motives not revealed, the series concluded with many questions and loose threads. The woman suggested Emaline is dangerous, hinting that she would likely use Carrie as a weapon for a larger conspiracy. It remains to be seen what's next for Howell's character if Flanagan's series returns for another season.
