Jessica Jones, the popular superheroine character played by Krysten Ritter, is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after her appearance in the crossover miniseries The Defenders.

Long-time fans of the character will now see her again in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which is set to premiere in March 2026. Sana Amanat, the executive producer, has explained to Empire why the decision to reprise Jessica was made.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will bring home two popular Defenders characters: Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones. Jessica is a character written by Brian Michael Bendis and appeared in the MCU timeline for the first time in Alias #1.

Jessica appears as a grounded superhero in the previous, titular rendition. She is not a typical superhero or one who wears her powers on her sleeves. She wants to lie low and avoid public attention.

She runs her investigation agency and is an important force in The Defenders. In this story, she and Cage join hands to combat The Hand, the supervillain organization.

Sana Amanat spoke on the decision to call this popular heroine back into the upcoming MCU series led by Charlie Cox. The executive producer commented,

"[Jessica] isn’t necessarily a team-up kind of person. So the reason she’s back is because it feels like it’s very personal."

His comments also highlight the show's intent as Jessica Jones returns. Many times, for popular, fan-favorite titles, the characters are called back to invoke nostalgia or maintain the show's appeal.

Sana Amanat also commented on the show's tonality by bringing Jessica Jones. The world of Daredevil is already very dark and dramatic. Introducing Jessica means adding edge and a characteristic lightness.

"She brings edginess and lightness — Daredevil can be very dark and dramatic, and she cuts through the BS in a really fun way."

The show's Season 1 opens on a serious tone when the protagonist Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, tries to step away from his hero identity and tries to get back to work.

He tries hard to normal life in New York. There is intense courtroom drama with very emotionally leaning moments. The show leans on the emotional weight of Matt’s close friend Foggy Nelson's death.

It also deals with the return of the Bullseye. These events shape a raw and grounded tone driven by grief and loss.

The season leans heavily towards crime drama. It focuses on hard moral choices and Wilson Fisk’s climb to dangerous levels of power. It shows a cityscape that is always tense and threatened.

The cast of Season 2 includes

  • Charlie Cox features as the central character, Matt Murdock / Daredevil
  • Ayelet Zurer plays Vanessa Fisk
