The return of Daredevil: Born Again has many fans eagerly anticipating its premiere, and one question that has repeated itself throughout the interwebs has to do with its relationship to the rest of the Marvel Universe. Normally, characters in films and shows crossing over into one another is something fans have come to expect, so many would expect that this season would do the same, but the Daredevil showrunner has provided an explanation about why it is being done differently for this series.

In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Dario Scardapane, who is the current showrunner for this new season of Daredevil: Born Again, stated clearly that he enjoys crossovers and enjoys the different stories that can be created by mixing many different characters together. However, he reported that for this season, this is not part of the plan and that there are reasons for this decision.

He has indicated that the reason he did not include crossovers in this season is not due to a dislike of, or any problem with, the MCU; rather, it is because of the story that he is trying to create in this season. He has stated that the plan is to keep the world of Daredevil small and that they want to ground this story as much as possible.

He also joked about this by saying that the bigger MCU heroes are "uptown," while the people in this show are "downtown." This was his way of saying that the show has its own space and does not need to bring in larger characters. While other Marvel heroes may exist somewhere in the same world, they do not need to appear in every story, and this season is one that stays very local. This means the focus is on the street-level side of New York City rather than big battles or connections to giant events.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 brings a small, grounded story for the characters who live in Hell's Kitchen

Scardapane did clarify that the focus for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will be around Matt Murdock and his personal struggles, as well as the community he is protecting. He said that while there are a ton of big stories happening in the MCU, this season will truly be focused on one neighborhood and one man doing everything he can within that neighborhood.

He went on to say that the show functions better when it doesn't attempt to be something too large or epic and instead just tells the story of the everyday problems, street crime, and corruption, and how one person has to carry the weight of trying to protect a neighborhood that will always be under threat.

He noted that occasionally, people forget that not every Marvel project has to create a sense of scale for their audiences. Some characters are much easier to understand if you are simply looking at their life or the lives of the people that surround them.

He also said that although both Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk have appeared in other MCU projects, this season of Daredevil: Born Again will not follow the same pattern. Instead, it is moving forward with a more self-contained world that belongs to them and their story. He said that there may be small nods to things, as the characters have their history, but viewers should not expect major MCU stars to walk into the story.

How does this connect to the old Netflix shows, and what can fans expect next?

The showrunner also talked about how the older Netflix shows fit into the picture. He said that even though the Netflix shows mentioned some major MCU events in the past, those shows still felt like their own world. They were linked, but the connections were always small and never the main focus. Daredevil: Born Again is taking on the same idea. It keeps the mood and style of the earlier series while still being its own version.

Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again will also bring back familiar faces like Jessica Jones, which is part of what many fans from the Netflix days wanted. But Scardapane pointed out that even with that, the show is not trying to bring in the whole Marvel universe. Instead, it is going to stay focused on Hell's Kitchen and the fight against the rise of Wilson Fisk.

He said the story of this season of Daredevil: Born Again is about power, fear, control, and the pressure placed on one man who wants to protect his home. And he believes that keeping the story local helps the show stay strong and clear. It avoids getting lost in too many big events. It helps keep the emotional weight of the story in one place, and it helps the characters feel real.
