Dark Matter Season 2, starring Joel Edgerton, is all set to premiere on August 28, 2026, on Apple TV. The popular sci-fi series was created by Blake Crouch based on his 2016 novel, titled Dark Matter.
The series follows a Chicago-based physicist and professor, Jason Dessen, who gets abducted. He is forcibly taken to a warehouse and eventually sent into an alternate reality. He finds a large black box in the warehouse that serves as a portal to millions of parallel realities consisting of different variations of Jason. He is thereafter injected with a compound and sent to the box.
As he struggles to find his way back to reality, Jason finds out that his abductor is an alternate version of himself who wants to take over his life. Jason must navigate his way back before the alternates can harm his family or tarnish his reputation. Meanwhile, he befriends psychologist Amanda Lucas, and they work together to find a way back to the right world.
While the first season adapted Crouch's novel, Season 2 will move beyond the events of the book. Crouch serves as the executive producer, creator, writer, and showrunner. According to Deadline, executive producers Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry, Richard Lederer, and Mat Tolmach have also co-written the episode along with Crouch. The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television for Apple TV.
