As AMC's Dark Winds wrapped yet another gripping narrative rooted in Navajo culture and crime-solving intrigue with the Season 4 finale, fans are already speculating about what lies ahead. The series has already been confirmed for a fifth season. The latest season of the network’s psychological thriller series, based on Tony Hillerman's Leaphorn & Chee novel, follows Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Bernadette Manuelito. They travel to Los Angeles to search for a missing Navajo woman.

One question that has sparked particular curiosity is whether Bosch actor Titus Welliver will reprise his role as the enigmatic Dominic McNair. Introduced as a complex and calculating crime boss involved in drug and stolen goods trafficking, McNair quickly became a standout presence, adding layers of tension and unpredictability to the storyline.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Titus Welliver expressed his desire to return in Dark Winds Season 5, suggesting that the central trio is not free from McNair's terror:

''Well, I'm pretty shameless. At the premiere of the party for the show, after they screened the first episode, I went to John and I went, "I want to come back."

More on this in our story.

Titus Welliver weighs in on Dominic McNair's return in Dark Winds Season 5

Another successful season of Dark Winds came to a harrowing end with the nail-biting Season 4 finale titled 'The Glittering World'. The season saw a resolution for Irene Vaggan, who was half-burned in Billie and Leaphorn’s attempt to escape her twisted fantasy. She was eventually arrested on murder charges, there was no way to link the murders of innocent Navajo men to Dominic McNair. As a result, the real mastermind remained beyond the reach of justice. With justice only partially served, the potential of McNair walking free looms large in the upcoming season, which opens the door for Titus Welliver's return.

Talking to ScreenRant, the Bosch actor revealed how Dominic McNair's arc remains unresolved and open-ended in the Dark Winds Season 4 finale:

''...After my last day of work, when we shot those final scenes, "It feels very open-ended. So just know that all you got to do is pick up the phone, and I'll be there. So we'll see. We'll see. I'm thrilled that they got an early pickup, and they're right smack back into it. So we shall see. Obviously, it would be a tremendous amount of fun, and it'd be, I think, very interesting for the audience to see what would happen if McNair got out. Yeah, so standby. And I'm not trying to be obtuse or sneaky.''

Expressing his desire to return in Dark Winds Season 5, Welliver added:

''Honestly, there's nothing on the books at this moment, but that being said, I would welcome it and would run back in a heartbeat.''

In the final moments of the Dark Winds Season 4 finale, as Joe and Billie were held captive by Irene, a quick strategy led to an explosion that left the delusional woman with a half-burned face. Leaphorn was initially tempted to strangle Irene to death, but he instead arrested her for her crimes, followed by his ominous visit to McNair in prison.

Leaphorn was well aware that with Leroy Gorman, the only witness in the case, dead, there was no way to pin the murders on the real mastermind in Dark Winds Season 4. This aggravated Leaphorn, and while he revealed to McNair that he managed to add a murder charge to his initial court case, he knew that McNair would walk away free. This prompted Leaphorn to openly challenge McNair to come after him when he is a free man, setting up Titus Welliver's return in the upcoming season.

While Titus Welliver has impressively portrayed Harry Bosch across nine seasons of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, his latest antagonistic character was a much-needed change of pace that fans thoroughly enjoyed. It would be interesting to see how Welliver's McNair will exact revenge on Leaphorn in the upcoming installment.
