Dateline: Simply Diabolical revisits the shocking true story of an innocent woman named Michelle Hadley, who was framed by Angela Diaz in a dark cyber-revenge scheme built around fake advertisements promoting r*pe fantasies. Anaheim police suspected Michelle of sending threatening emails to her former boyfriend Ian and his pregnant wife Angela.
At first, police accepted their made-up story that Michelle was a psycho ex-girlfriend, but later as the investigation deepened through digital evidence, their analysis collapsed. They found that when Michelle was accused of sending emails from jail, she had no access to the internet.

Simply Diabolical revisits Michelle Hadley's arrest on felony charges
On June 1, 2026, Ian and Angela Diaz went to the Anaheim police in California to report online harassment that appeared to have a clear suspect. For several weeks, Angela had been receiving disturbing emails from an account named "Lilith is Truth". These emails accused Angela of being a sinner and included hostile lines such as "Ian does not love you" and "you have stolen my life".
According to Time, the couple reported to the police that the account belonged to Ian's ex-girlfriend Michelle Hadley. Later that same month, Angela accused Michelle of posting her photos in online advertisements that invited men to r*pe her at Ian's condominium as a part of a s*xual fantasy. Angela further reported that men had shown up at her home in response to those ads and one man had even tried to attack her in the garage.
In July, police arrested Michelle on felony charges that included stalking and attempted r*pe. She remained in jail for nearly 3 months until investigators uncovered that she had not been involved in the harassment.
How were Ian and Angela caught by the police?

Simply Diabolical revealed that the authorities traced the IP address of that online account and found that the emails and ads came from Ian and Angela's own residence. Department of Justice special agent Jason Higley reviewed police body camera footage taken during Michelle's imprisonment and noticed that Ian sounded nervous and appeared to be guiding Angela on what she should tell officers.
Michelle spent 88 days in jail before investigators traced the IP addresses from the emails back to her former condominium. According to reports by The Washington Post, authorities connected the emails to Angela and determined that she had sent them from the condo where she lived with Ian.
When Higley examined backups of Ian's government-issued laptop, he uncovered Ian's personal email connected to conversations between the accused account and the men who had answered the Craigslist r*pe fantasy ads. He also found fragments of the emails stored on the laptop and ultimately confirmed that these emails came from Ian.
In 2017, Angela was charged with false imprisonment, kidnapping and filing false crime reports. Michelle was fully cleared of every accusation and officially exonerated.
In 2021, Ian was taken into custody and after two years, he was found guilty of cyberstalking, obstructing a federal investigation and perjury. He was sentenced to ten years in prison.
