Who is Juliana Peres Magalhaes in Dateline: Temptation?

In Dateline: Temptation, Juliana Peres will be shown as a 25-year-old Brazilian au pair connected to a high-profile double murder case in Northern Virginia. She was involved in an extramarital affair with her employer, Brendan Banfield. Both of them were convicted for their roles in February 2023 killings of Brendan's wife, Christine Banfield, as well as a stranger named Joseph Ryan.

On Friday, February 13, the court heard from Judge Penney Azcarate that this was the most serious manslaughter case the court had ever faced. She gave Juliana a sentence of ten years in prison with two years suspended. The judge gave many reasons for the maximum sentences.

According to the judge, she helped create a fake social media profile using her employer's wife's identity to lure Joseph to the home under the guise of a stranger rap* fantasy. Moreover, she participated in creating a fake alibi and claimed that she and the four-year-old child were going to the zoo on the morning of the murders. She followed orders to open the family's gun safe during the incident and then helped change the scene to make it look like a s*x fantasy that had gone wrong.

Before the judge announced the sentence, Juliana spoke to the court. She said that she was sorry for what happened. She offered her apology to the families of the victims and to the daughter of Brendan and Christine Banfield. She said,

"I hope someday I can be forgiven, as I hope to be able to forgive myself."

After that, Azcarate spoke about what Juliana had done. She said that Juliana watched while Brendan stabbed his wife. She also said that Julian shot Joseph at close range. The judge said,

"The plan did not work without your full involvement."

Ryan Campbell, Juliana's lawyer, explained that she will spend about 4 years and 2 months in prison. This includes credit for time she has already served and for good behavior. He said that this will be the outcome no matter what the judge stated.
