Daniel opened the door and was shot in the chest by the gunman, who came disguised as a FedEx delivery driver carrying a package in his hand. When he opened the door, he took the first bullet directly to his chest to block the shooter and protect his parents. Then, the gunman shot Mark three times, but he managed to survive.

NBC News reported that Congress had passed a law named after Daniel, which aims to protect federal judges by keeping their personal information and the details of their close relatives safe.

CBS News reported that FBI investigators and New York State Police rushed to the small hamlet after highway patrol found Den Hollander's body in a car in Rockland town, which is located in Sullivan County. Officials quickly named him the prime suspect in the deadly attack at the home of Judge Esther.
Sources revealed that Hollander lived on the East Coast and traveled by train from New York to California specifically to kill his rival, then immediately took a train back east.
