Death of the Pastor's Wife is Netflix's latest three-part true-crime docuseries that follows the controversial death of Mica Miller, a 30-year-old worship leader & creative director at Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and the wife of pastor John-Paul (JP) Miller.

Just two days after serving her husband divorce papers, Mica Miller was found dead in April 2024 from a self-inflicted wound, with her death ruled a su*c*de by medical examiners. The ruling was contested by Mica's friends and family, who accused John Paul of ''grooming'' her from a young age and pushing her to her death.

Netflix's Death of the Pastor's Wife follows Mica Miller's tumultuous marriage, which was followed by manipulation, isolation and control masked as spiritual leadership.

2017-2023: Mica Miller married John Paul at a young age

Netflix's Death of the Pastor's Wife recounts the early stages of Mica Francis' life, when her family relocated to Myrtle Beach, and she started attending Solid Rock Church as a teenager. At that time, Pastor John-Paul was married to Allison Williams and they had five children. While married to her first husband, Mica began an affair with John Paul. In November 2017, John Paul and Mica divorced their respective spouses and tied the knot. They were 38 and 23, respectively.

Mica Miller's sister Sierra Francis claims that while John Paul and the congregation believed their marriage was perfect, the latter was highly controlling towards the deceased. Sierra's testimony suggests that the couple had a tumultuous marriage. According to the court records, the couple officially filed for a divorce in October 2023.

Early 2024: The events before Mica Miller's death

As shown in Netflix's Death of the Pastor's Wife, the months before Mica Miller's death were chaotic and tumultuous. In February 2024, Mica was involuntarily hospitalized for a 48-hour mental health evaluation, which she later claimed was orchestrated by John Paul to steal her car. While John Paul claimed his wife had ''episodes'' without her medication, Mica's family confirmed that her mental health condition was a direct response to John Paul's abuse.

After an incident where Mica Miller found her car tire slashed with a piece of metal and a tracking device inside the vehicle, she filed separate support, maintenance, and a no-contact order against John Paul in April 2024.

Mica Miller died on April 27, 2024

On April 27, 2024, Mica Miller was found dead in a river by a kayaker, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her head. According to Netflix's Death of the Pastor's Wife, the Robeson County Sheriff's Office reconstructed Mica Miller's movements on her final day through surveillance footage from her ring camera and GPS logs.

Mica Miller left her residence at 11:38 a.m. and was seen purchasing a firearm at Dick’s Pawn Shop in Myrtle Beach at 12:12 pm. 911 received a phone call from Mica Miller at 2:54 p.m. from a North Carolina Park, where she announced that she was going to kill herself. Mica asked the operators to trace the call, which would help her family discover her body.

While law enforcement officials arrived at the scene, Mica Miller was tragically found dead.

2024-Present: The aftermath of Mica Miller's death and John Paul's trial

While Mica Miller's death was ruled su*cide by the medical examiner, her friends and family accused John Paul of abusing, harassing, and forcing her to take such an extreme step. Mass protests erupted outside Solid Rock Church in March 2024, as Mica Miller's friends, family, and online advocates demanded a deeper investigation into John Paul.

In December 2024, John Paul was indicted by a federal jury and charged with cyberstalking, making false statements to federal investigators, posting n*de photos of his wife online without her consent, calling her 50 times in a single day and placing trackers on her car.

John Paul is currently out of jail on a $100,000 bond, with his trial scheduled for October 2026. If found guilty, John Paul will face a penalty of five years in prison for cyberstalking, two years in prison for false statements, and a fine of up to $250,000.
