Shondaland's Bridgerton is in the news once again, and this time it's not for the new season updates. For the first time, the Regency-era drama has failed to make it onto Netflix's All-Time Top 10 English TV list.

Season 4 dropped in two parts, and the finale part launched on February 26. The 91-day window has closed, and it seems like Season 4 has failed to make it to the list. Every previous Bridgerton installment, including the spin-off Queen Charlotte, had made it to the Top 10 list during the launch window.

As per the What's on Netflix data, Bridgerton Season 4 has accumulated around 92-95M views. So, is the popularity of the most hyped Netflix series really dying? Why is the viewership starting to decrease despite the season's success? Many viewers blamed Season 3 for the recent decrease in viewership. Here's an instance of what the viewers feel about it. A viewer on Reddit shared:

"Season 4 was great and felt much more in line with Season 1&2 but I think the mishaps of Season 3 is what turned off a lot of viewers. Season 3 was pretty bad," commented PrudentBell5751

Here's more about it.

Bridgerton Season 4 viewership numbers

Even though Season 4 is considered popular and the fans absolutely enjoyed Benedict and Sophie's Cinderella-coded love story, the viewership numbers say otherwise. After the three-month window finally closed on May 28, Season 4 didn't accumulate enough viewership to reach Netflix's All-Time Top 10 English TV.

According to a report by What's on Netflix, Season 4 (based on Complete Viewing Equivalents) has recorded around 90.876 million. CVE. After adding the additional 'missed' hours, the viewership rose to around 92-95 million views. Unfortunately, it was around 3 million short of the 98.5 million mark to reach the chart.

Viewers blame Bridgerton Season 3 for Season 4's Netflix performance

Season 3 was based on the book, 'Romancing Mister Bridgerton,' and it followed the friends-to-lovers journey of Penelope Featherington and Colin. However, many viewers were left disappointed with the plot and the direction. Viewers now think that the poor direction, cinematography, and plot of Season 3 have affected Season 4 viewership. A Redditor shared:

"A couple of my friends wouldn't watch S4 because the disliked the direction of S3."

Meanwhile, @littlemybb added,

"I agree Season 4 was a lot better and I feel like they did listen to some of the criticism and concern.

While some viewers added that it is normal for a show's viewership count to decrease over seasons. The initial hype that is present during the show's first few seasons fades away. A Redditor commented,

"Isn't this kind of normal with TV shows? Viewership diminish over time cause the initial attention fades."

From sidelining Penelope and Colin's long-awaited romance to rushing through Francesca's storyline and giving excessive attention to the Mondriches, Season 3 received criticism from many viewers.

Despite the mixed response of Season 3 and declining numbers of Season 4, the Bridgerton phenomenon shows no signs of slowing down. The Regency era drama has been renewed for Season 5 and 6.
