Whitney Halberstram's (Max Minghella) actions finally caught up to him in the recently released penultimate entry (Episode 7) of Industry Season 4, HBO's financial thriller series created by former investment bankers Mickey Down and Konrad Kay. The latest season shifted gears with a new financial destination, Tender, Whitney's payment processor company, which boasts a fraudulent balance sheet. After Whitney's schemes to convert Tender's dealings into real revenue and transform it into a mainstream bank are thrown out the window, he is forced to abandon Sir Henry Muck (Kit Harington), Tender's CEO, to deal with the fallout alone. In the previous episode of Industry, Whitney left a letter implicating Henry in Tender's dealings, which links the aristocrat to Whitney's various crimes. The series featured an unexpected halt to Whitney and Henry's complicated relationship, after the former practically flees from the scene. Unpacking the characters' dynamics in a recent interview with Variety, Minghella says:''I think it was different for both of us...On the approach, the character dynamics, [Henry] very much saw Whitney as a father figure, as a paternal figure, and leaned into that a lot in his thinking.''More on this in our story.Max Minghella praises co-star Kit Harington and breaks the characters' complicated relationship in Industry Season 4 Episode 7 View this post on Instagram Instagram PostIndustry Season 4 Episode 7 featured an unexpected resolution to the sexual tension bubbling between Whitney and Henry. While the Tender CFO is clearly infatuated with the aristocrat, having lured him to a gay bar & a glory hole in the previous episode, he practically jumped ship on him, leaving him in the ditch when the situation got out of his hands. After Whitney realized that a hostile Peirpoint takeover was no solution to the mess he had created, he abandoned his phone, his company, Henry and ran.Building such a complicated and interesting same-sex on-screen relationship is no easy task but Minghella and Harington excelled in their respective jobs. Praising his Industry Season 4 co-star Kit Harington, Max Minghella said:''I was very nervous, intimidated by the whole thing, and kind of out of my depth, I think. And then he [Harington] made me feel so safe. He was so supportive. It was unbelievable. I couldn’t have done it without him. So I was endlessly grateful to him on a personal level.''Unpacking Whitney's infatuation with Henry in Industry Season 4, Minghella believes he is obsessed with Sir Henry Muck's position and privilege, things that were denied to him since childhood. While the series has cleverly kept Whitney's backstory a secret, there's no doubt that Whitney is a self-made (albeit fake) man, as Minghella added:''He [Whitney] taught himself everything...He wishes that he had that confidence, the actual innate confidence or comfort of somebody who had a silver spoon in their mouth, even if it was a toxic one. He probably finds even the toxicity rather glamorous and unattainable.''Max Minghella on Whitney's downfall in Industry Season 4 Episode 7 View this post on Instagram Instagram PostIndustry Season 4 Episode 7 was especially challenging for Whitney, after Yasmin's planned story about Tender's illegal schemes broke out in The Patriot. Tender's stock dropped to 77% and the public demanded the company's audit. However, just as Whitney was about to flee (with his Lithuanian passport) before the Pierpoint AGM, he was stopped by Tender's Ferdinand Schwarzwald and a mysterious man. Ferdinand reminds Whitney about his shady dealings with the Russian mob and practically warns him to stay put and deliver his speech at the AGM. However, Pierpoint’s CFO, Wilhelmina Fassbinder, used Whitney's performance to secure another deal for her company, leading to Tender's total collapse. The once-flourishing payment processing startup in Industry Season 4 was burnt to the ground, with its CFO backed up in the corner. Breaking down Whitney's downfall in Episode 7, Minghella added:''I found it funny when he was so pathetic and I didn’t really know what he was doing...When I saw how pathetic he is when he gets out of the car, he just looks so vulnerable and fragile in a way that I found just very humorous.''With Tender's downfall and Whitney's escape, the stage is set for an intense finale, scheduled to air on HBO on March 1.
