The highly anticipated live-action series, Eragon, is moving ahead in its development.

Disney+ has appointed High Potential showrunner Todd Harthan to collaborate with author Christopher Paolini, as reported by Deadline. Joining as a co-showrunner with Harthan, we have Todd Helbing on board.

The series is based on Paolini's The Inheritance Cycle novel series, which Eragon marked as its first one. It explores the story of how a boy experiences a major turning point when he finds a dragon's egg. He also proceeds to discover his purpose in life, as he revolts against tyranny.

Eragon makes headway as Christopher Paolini teams up with High Potential showrunner

Christopher Paolini's book, Eragon, was highly successful upon its release. Over the years, the book has garnered a huge army of dedicated stans of the iconic fantasy saga. Therefore, the idea of a live-action series adaptation is too enticing to overlook.

Much to fans' delight, a series is being discussed by Disney+. Todd Harthan is the showrunner, who is well known for creating the crime comedy series High Potential. The series has earned a rating of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Apart from this series, he is also recognized for his work in Rosewood, Psych, Crash, and many more.

Teaming up with Harthan, we have Todd Helbing as a creative collaborator. Earlier, the celebrated writer was well distinguished for his work in co-writing Mortal Kombat: Legacy, Spartacus, The Flash, and Superman & Lois. Given his experience in genre television, Helbing is the apt person to be on board who can create the colossal world-building and installment-based narrative that this project requires.

Along with Harthan and Helbing's artistic sensibilities, mixed with Christopher Paolini's engagement, this series is already on the right track. With Paolini's association, the series can remain constant and in alignment with the original literary material. Joining the trio are Marc Webb as the executive producer, along with Rachel Moore and Bert Salke. Disney Television Studios is supporting the project.

This is not the first time Eragon has been reimagined into a live-action. Back in 2006, Stefen Fangmeier directed the film. What makes it even more special is that this is the first feature film of the filmmaker. The film stars Ed Speelers, Sienna Guillory, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou, and many others. However, the film was unsuccessful both critically and commercially. Therefore, no further developments after the film was made.

Now, with the upcoming Disney+ series, we can expect a far more in-depth exploration of the world of Alagaesia. With each episode, it can create a more immersive world where the plot, characters, and the mythological world are extended and can be intensely felt.
