Doc Season 2 Episode 19 recap: Joan appoints a new Chief Resident while Jake and Amy’s relationship hits breaking point

Fox's popular medical drama, Doc Season 2, is back with a new episode this Tuesday. Titled Next, Episode 19 follows the chaotic lives of the medics at Westside Hospital. Joan Ridley will select the next chief resident as she steps out due to health issues. Meanwhile, Amy might have trouble with her partner, Jake.

Previously, we saw how Michael, Amy, and Katie reunited for a road trip to Katie's college. They also managed to save a critically injured man and his fiance who got into a snowmobile accident. We also saw the old spark between Michael and Amy rekindle in the episode as they continuously flirted on their way back to the house. Amy's distance from Jake kept growing, firstly after he hid his ex's health scare and secondly, due to Amy's current feelings for her ex-husband, Michael.

Doc Season 2 Episode 19 recap: Joan appoints Michael as the new Chief Resident

After Joan Ridley's secret was out, she stepped down from her position. After weeks of manipulation and lies, Amy finally confronted her, and Joan revealed that she was indeed facing a critical health issue that affected her professional duties. In this episode, Joan was ready to pass on the baton to the next capable chief resident.

Turns out, it was neither Amy nor Sonya who bagged the position. It was Micahel who was appointed as the next Chief Resident of Westside Hospital. Initially, Joan and Michael were conducting interviews to find who's best suited for the role; however, it turns out they failed to find one. When Michael revealed that he would want to take up the role, Joan asked whether he chose this to stay close to Amy. Michael replied that it's highly unlikely. He managed to convince Joan of why he could be the perfect pick. We also get a sneak peek into a flashback of Michael and Amy.

Joan later announced that Sonya and Amy were appointed as the Co-Chief Residents.

Trouble in paradise for Jake and Amy?

In Doc Season 2 Episode 19, Amy and Jake clashed over a patient's treatment. It starts when Hayley, a pregnant woman, visits Westside for treatment. She's stuck between her divorced parents. Jake and Amy clash over the treatment procedure.

While Jake was leaning towards medicine, Amy opted for surgery. While Amy was on Hayley's mother's side, Jake took her father's side. In short, it was an absolute mess. The pregnancy was non-viable, and Jake gave her the medications required. Turns out, Hayley was allergic to the medicines, and they had to operate, proving Amy's methods were safer. There was a growing mistrust between Amy and Jake, and in the end, they decided that they had to take a break from each other.

Gina and TJ team up to save Walter

In the most heartwarming moments of Doc Season 2, Episode 14, TJ treats a young boy called Walter with severe arthritis. During this time, TJ had also secured the surgical residency.

TJ teams up with Gina to treat Walter. Soon, Gina finds out that the science fair that Walter was so excited about was actually an adoption fair. Walter, who was from a group home, built a nice bond with Gina. This leaves the audience with the question, will Gina adopt Walter? Will Walter finally find his forever home?
