After an emotional run, Doctor on the Edge has reached its finale, leaving fans with a satisfying ending. In the previous episode, Ji-ui doesn't hesitate to call out the governor and ask him to let him stay in his position. And he even gets to stay for a year on the island. However, the episode ended on a cliffhanger with the governor playing his new move of initiating an investigation in the hospital.
In Episode 12, instead of helping the governor and letting his pride take over, Ji-ui chooses to stand up to him. And to his surprise, the project supervisor, who didn't like or appreciate the doctors until now, comes to his help.
In the end, the center opens again, and Ha-ri decides to continue working in the hospital. As for Ji-ui, he receives a notice of reassignment. Despite going their separate ways professionally, Ji-ui and Ha-ri decide to stay together, promising to keep their relationship strong and meet whenever they miss each other.

Doctor on the Edge Episode 12 recap: Ha-ri breaks the rules

Since the hospital is sealed, the village chief asks the doctors to help them with shucking oysters, something the Ji-ui wasn't very good at and Chi-yeon was very aggressive about. The chief even suggests Ji-ui not fight with the governor directly, as it might not help him in the situation he is in.
Jeong-seon later asks Ju-cheon to come over after having a bad stomachache, and when he asks her to go to a hospital, she decides to take the early morning ferry to keep her pregnancy private. Ju-cheon decides to stay by her side. While going to the hospital, she faces an ectopic pregnancy, and the doctors have to operate on her.
Meanwhile, Chi-yeon and Ji-ui spot the drunk project supervisor driving. He ends up crashing a car, leaving himself with a deep cut on his face.
The doctors decide to operate on him. But Sin-hye was not very sure about the same, as she advised them not to touch anything in the hospital. Though Ha-ri decides to break the glass and take out the needed medicines. She even takes the blame on herself.
Doctor on the Edge finale recap: Why does the project supervisor help Ji-ui?
Witnessing the doctors put their careers on the line in Doctor on the Edge Episode 12 changes the project supervisor's perspective. Instead of Ha-ri, Sin-hye takes the blame for everything in front of the officers.
Later, the director of the public health center meets the doctors and shares the solution she came up with. She suggests they help the governor with the campaign as the elections are coming up, and she will request him to pass the ten-year plan for medical advancement on the island.
However, Ji-ui doesn't seem to be very happy with the solution and tells her that he would rather fight than let the governor's ego win. Until now, the project supervisor also fought with the doctors, but after observing how caring they are towards the patients and understanding their perspective from Ji-ui, he gives Ji-ui the recording of the governor to expose him.
During the campaign, Ji-ui pretends to be on the governor's side by praising his intention. However, he suddenly plays the voice recording after saying that the governor doesn't care about the life of the patient, leaving everyone shocked. In the recording, the governor is heard saying they will outsource the Yeopoong healthcare project to the highest bidder so they can make as much money as possible.
The governor finds himself cornered from all sides and eventually hurts his leg. Ironically, Ji-ui and the other doctors are the ones who treat him at the hospital.
Doctor on the Edge ending explained: Where do all the characters end up?

After exposing the governor in Doctor on the Edge, the hospital receives X-ray machines, an ultrasound machine, and many other pieces of equipment to treat patients. Meanwhile, Chi-yeon decides to take some time to figure out which medical specialty he truly wants to pursue.
As for Jeong-seon and Ju-cheon, they end up being together, realizing that they are into each other.
However, Ji-ui receives a notice of reassignment, and he protests at the county office to stay on the island. Ha-ri is left confused about whether to leave the island with Ji-ui. But after watching a video of her grandmother calling her strong, smart, and kind-hearted and saying she no longer worries because Ha-ri has someone to look after her, Ha-ri decides to stay and continue working at the hospital.
Ji-ui takes Ha-ri to Jineondo for burgers, and on the way, she tells him that she has decided to return to the hospital. Although Ji-ui is a little worried about how they will continue their relationship, Ha-ri reassures him that they will meet whenever they miss each other.
The finale episode ends with Ji-ui visiting a new location as part of his reassignment, wondering if he can handle the difficulties in this place as well.
