After the release of Eric Dane's final interview, many were shocked at what this long and emotional interview revealed about his life and struggles and more importantly for him, what message he wanted to share with his two daughters about how to find their own path in life. When Eric shared his journey through the emotional rollercoaster ride of fighting his disease, it was clear he was a dad struggling to come to terms with his life and leave behind a legacy for his children. In the interview, filmed for Famous Last Words, directed by Brad Falchuk, Eric Dane shared with the audience his daily battle of living with ALS, a disease that progressively weakens all muscles. Eric shared how he handled the day-to-day struggles of ALS by relying on his daughters and family for strength and joy from good times and positive experiences.Through this process of his journey, Eric Dane learned that living in the moment is the best way to live. Most of all, he hopes that both of his daughters understand this concept. As Eric explained:"First, live now. Right now. In the present. It’s hard, but I learned to do that."Eric Dane's final message to his daughtersThe most emotional part of the interview came at the end, when Falchuk stepped away, and Eric Dane addressed the camera alone. He looked straight ahead and spoke directly to his daughters, Billie and Georgia. He said:"Billie and Georgia, these words are for you. I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall we had a blast, didn’t we?"Eric Dane then shared four lessons he hoped his daughters would carry forward. The first was to "live now." He said he had spent too many years trapped in his own thoughts, worrying about mistakes or fears. But illness forced him into the present moment. He said:"The past contains regrets. The future remains unknown. So you have to live now. The present is all you have. Treasure it. Cherish every moment."His second lesson was about falling in love, not only with a person, but with a passion. He told them that acting was the first thing he ever fell in love with, and that it kept him going even in his darkest periods. He said:"Second, fall in love. Not necessarily with a person, although I do recommend that as well. But fall in love with something. Find your passion, your joy. Find the thing that makes you want to get up in the morning, drives you through the entire day."Lesson three focused on relationship building. Eric Dane shared that he has a lot of good friends, and they all show up for him without needing an invitation. Eric wants his girls to be selective with whom they choose as friends, to help those who are there for them, and to create and maintain friendships that bring them up. He said:"Third, choose your friends wisely. Find your people and allow them to find you. And then give yourselves to them. The best of them will give back to you. No judgment, no conditions, no questions asked."His final lesson was about fighting with dignity. He told them to face hardship with honesty and courage. Even though the disease was taking away his physical strength, he insisted it could not take away his spirit. He reminded them that they were strong and resilient, and that they inherited that quality from him. He encouraged them to face life with determination, no matter how hard things became. He said:"Finally, fight with every ounce of your being, and with dignity. When you face challenges, health or otherwise, fight. Never give up. Fight until your last breath."The interview now stands as his final public message with a mix of love, advice, memories, and acceptance, meant only for the two people he cherished most.
